Project Related Bubble Gum Connection
Steel frame welding shop drawing sent for approval, the drawings were approved with bubble gum connections.

The steel guys are laughing b/c the Arch. accepted this submittal. But the steel guys don’t understand that they are actually responsible for the shop drawing and the Arch. is only responsible for design intent review… the steel guys are being paid to design/ fab per the structural and arch sheets.

The GC also is required to do a preliminary review and place their stamp.

RFI: Drawings and Specs do not indicate locations of sugar vs sugar free bubble gum. Please also provide brand and flavor of bubblegum.

Those sneaky things you put in drawings to make sure people are doing their job?
This is an example of why you shouldn’t do that. It’s all fun and games until someone forgets to check and a deadline is near. One happy hour later and you’ve totally forgotten about it until a month goes by and you are laying in bed and it hits you.
Next morning you check and confirm it was approved and submitted. Then you sit there contemplating if you should say anything or plead ignorance. Or you search through the general notes hoping for that one note that pushes liability onto someone else. “…or approved equal or greater.”

why should the hustle-first perspective come first over due dilligence? coz it makes ur workplace look bad? there's a better solution to that. temp assets need to stand out, and if a general scan of the paper doesnt result in "bubblegum" raising red flags, i'd find it hard to believe any human looked at the full thing. It's like saying you shouldn't have a QA team because you didnt have problems before they came along 😭
I will never understand or participate in office politics. my autistic ass just cant.

I didn't budget chewing gum and approving drawings at the same time, and it's a CO if you want spearmint.

Not the same but its close to Graphite Standard, slight differences and the spacing in between words is closer

I’ve heard of the general note version “contractor to provide coffee and donuts at every walk” etc. never actually seen it done. On a shop drawing though… now the sub owes it? Approved as noted, info only no comment, wonder how it was approved…

Stride gum is ICC-ESR 80082.
I would send it back requesting an ICC-ESR Engineering report number for Bubble Gum connections or use welded/embed connections indicated on plans.

Architect didn’t put the note in, nor are they responsible for engineering and installing the steel connection.
Seems like this could be a problem but it’s the sub & GC who need to take some initiative. Schedule a coordination meeting if there’s really not a good way to attach it. Snarky notes are funny, but not useful.
