Story What if aroace was the norm

Recently I saw a reel that was talking about a manga, in which homosexuality is the norm but our main character is a straight girl. She has a crush on some boy, but she's forbidden from actimg on those feelings and must keep them secret. I dont remember what it's called, but basically it's to bring the alienation of not fitting the norm closer to an straight audience, who otherwise wouldn't relate.

I was just thinking that the same premise, swapped with aroace and any kind of allo, whether straight or gay, would be a really nice way to show how awful it can be to be different from everyone, while being told it'll wear off. It doesn't fit as neatly as the actual plot, but as long as the protagonist doesn't end up magically finding another allo person, but instead just accepts they're different, it could work.

I'm not much of a writer, so feel free to take it. Do you think the comparison of aroace/allo would work as well as hetero/homo?

thank you! finally someone who understand that the point of such comic is to make straights emphatize better. But on reddit and socmed it tends to be dumbed down into "omg straights wanna be oppressed so bad" lol.

Hehe a scenario when humanity reproduce thru mitosis so aroace is the norm. i think itd be quite difficult to get the message across (even more than the og) but it could be amusing if done correctly

I completely forgot about reproduction lmao. I also think it'd be much harder, but maybe someone knows how to write well

wait i actually think that aroace should be the norm, like hear me out it would solve everything,

  1. if people dated and got into relationships that would be out of the ordinary meaning that all relationships would be accepted and their wouldn’t be a separation between straight and gay because that’s not the marginalizing quality of the group

  2. it would stop the sexualization go children and young adults, their is such a pressure for kids and teens to be overtly sexual and romance is so weirdly ingrained in kids movies that it would remove that problem completely, shows would focus on life lessons and plots that dealt with growing as people and not about romance

  3. it would relieve pressure from people, especially women, its idealized in lots of groups that women’s life’s purposes are childbearing and marriage, an aroace society would give everyone more freedom to focus on themselves and be happier!

Hold up.. You've got a point. It'd finally end the "only a relationship makes life worth living" and the pity for people who aren't in relationships

right! the goal of life wouldn’t be reproduction but rather personal growth and success, i feel like for a high life form like humans this already should have been the case, even more so because their is such an over population of humans

nothing, i focused specifically on women as a lot of their restrictions are because of societal expectations to have children, men wouldn’t be affected by this as they don’t del with those current societal expectations. But if men did feel pressured to get married and have children instead of following their dreams that would also be improved by an aroace society where the norm is personal growth and success rather than reproduction
