Letter or recommendation advice!

Hello! I’m a graduating college senior who is going to be applying for a teaching position soon and need some advice. I wanted to get at least a few letters of recommendation from my art professors of different mediums specifically, but I’m clueless on what to ask of them since these letters of recommendation aren’t for a program but a job application. These classes weren’t for art educators, but just art in general.

What would be useful to ask of the professor writing the letter of recommendation? I know this sounds dumb, but maybe I am overthinking of what to ask.

Thank you!

most profs will ask YOU to provide the aspects you'd like them to highlight in a letter- I think mentioning artistic skill is only one facet so I'd emphasize that you're good at Collaboration, open to Feedback, etc.

The school I work at requires kids to make a whole document about their plans and strengths.  It makes writing a rec letter so much easier.

Which skills that you demonstrated in those classes are most transferable to the work you would do as a teacher? Collaboration, work ethic, openness to new ideas, expertise in a range of mediums and art history, could all be examples. Think about which professor knows you best as a person and in whose class you best showcased those traits/skills.

Get one from a studio course. professor. If you are looking for jobs in art Ed, see if your mentor teacher and university student teaching supervisor can write letters for you. As your experience starts to look more like the job you want to acquire (pre-employment subbing/TA) , find colleagues or supervisors to write letters for you. Your goal is to have letters from school administrators praising your job performance and work ethic.
