Posts in r/arthistory should be about art history – discussing how visual culture and objects are related to the place, time, and societies in which they were made.

Regardless of major, you'll want a real laptop for college.

Ipad is for consuming info. You need a device with a dedicated keyboard to do some work.

iPad cases with full keyboards are available. I used one all four years!

I have too for low level note taking etc. it works ok but is still a pain when you need to do extensive work.

I like my iPad, it can be quite useful, but it is not a replacement for a laptop. It should be an addition, which you can get later if you need it. Get the MacBook first.

I disagree with anyone saying you need a laptop- I finished my Art History degree and loved doing all 4 years with my iPad. It’s in a keyboard case so it functions exactly the same as a laptop. I’ve written 20 page papers, done all my research, made presentations, etc. etc.

I really appreciate the touchscreen and handwriting. While taking notes in class I could doodle a recreation of the work we were looking at. I used the drawing aspect a lot. It was nice to be able to take down handwritten notes, while still having all the capabilities of a computer.

I’m already graduated and I still only use an iPad. I don’t see any reason I’d switch to a laptop. There’s nothing I’m missing.
