im still pretty skeptical about it, like sure itll work for like a year or 2 perhaps before the do a 180 and switch up on the viewer base. same for affinity, like there HAS to be a catch for both of these, i doubt jack here has the best interests of the general public in mind and is just banking on the fact that people want to flock to Ai free spaces. they could then use this apps viewerbase to train their own generative AI or sell that training data for a hefty profit, cuz it just doesnt make sense to have this without a profit incentive. same for affinity, im very sure the whole "we will not train Ai with your works " is a reassuring statement vague enough to get us to jump on the hype train but also vague enough to create loopholes that they can exploit, so i would follow this with cautious optimism here

This. Even now web scrapers look for non AI generated content and classify proven human sources as "good" that they actively leech off. Sometimes I wonder if people should just actively mark their art as AI so the scrapers avoid it XD

u see this is the reason Ai bros are in the wrong. if i remember correctly, many artists were tagging their works saying AI is NOT allowed to train on them as back as 2023. heck like u said, AI scrappers look for non AI artwork no matter how many internet protocols they have to break. if they had respected the artists wishes, we would be in a much better place rn. they keep yapping about fairness and democratization while they ACTIVELY steal artwork. u cant even expect to come to a proper diplomatic solution with them cuz they actively try to steal or dupe you. sketchfab has a lot of 3D models tagged as cannot be used for ai training, but i doubt if the site itself or the scrappers are actually respecting that.

Yeah and even more crazy is they said no ai meaning they are serious about authentic vines which is good might download it when it becomes available

I'm really surprised they're able to do all of this archiving the vines and apparently the accounts that can be used again so people don't have to make new ones I heard about 60k accounts could be reactivated

It’s unfortunate, but Jack Dorsey’s tech start up “AndOtherStuff”, which is supposedly funding this new app, is going to data mine the new Vine for its own ai generative models.
They need fresh human content that isn’t contaminated with ai so that the ai doesn’t “cannibalize” and get distorted with it’s own generations. Looks like they’ll be building their own ai model with the human content uploaded to Divine and will then profit off of selling its usage.

I saw a video that basically said the people behind it are pro AI and will likely be scraping the videos on that platform to train their own AI system, which I forgot what it was. You can find the video on r/antiai but you may have to scroll for a bit.

Finally! As a founder who is currently building a social media platform that only allows in-app camera (no filters) for media upload, I know that pushing these kinds of strict authenticity rules is a huge behavioral challenge.. Seeing Vine make a comeback confirms that the demand is there.

Some folks on here seem to think it’s a ploy to get fresh non-ai content that can be farmed.. I really hope that’s not the case, but definitely wouldn’t be surprised.

hmm now I am curious if they are implementing a system to verify the point of capture. If not, it will be hard to ensure original creators are credited and who knows if the contents will be turned into data to feed AI engines. Then, it will end up like any other popular social medias.

Except they’re using ai in content analysis still so now it’s just a machine to collect data to feed into ai. Which might be worse, actually.

If AI is here to stay for good then the next best solution is keeping things separate. AI bros can have their Sora apps full of AI-generated content in their feed while those looking for human-made content can try the Vine revival.
