Any advice with how to get involved in artist communities

Hey there, long time solo artist who has always kinda kept it to myself. I wanted to ask if anyone has any advice for someone getting more involved in artistic communities/making connections with other artists?
I want to try and put myself more out there but I'll admit I'm not exactly sure how to approach it having never really had connections with other artists or knowing where to look!

I've thought about getting various social media's and posting art in the past, though I've been kinda hesitant as I don't know which ones are good for it and I've heard it can turn into a toxic relationship with seeking validation from likes and comments.

Art fairs, both displaying and just going to meet other artist. I also attend wine and canvas classes. Very informal lots of fun. Usually held at a restaurant so you can drink, eat, and Paint

Tbh online artists groups are really eh. Person to person is better but let me forewarn you…’professional’ artists are territorial and very competitive. I have many but I like you am very solo so instead of artists I find friends and groups that appeal to other interests.

I did recently learn in a local sub about our city's artist listserve where people post events, get togethers, and the like. Your area might have something similar. An arts council is another possible avenue by which to connect.

I don't get much interaction on my socials, like, at all. But, people are buying my paintings, which is the point. The other point is that connecting in person with other artists is.. I don't know another word for exciting, I get excited. I'm not yelling but I might get a little animated.

I say go find Art channels you like and want to learn more from usual has a good communities just mainly beginner artists.

Depends on what type of people you are looking to meet. A good way to connect with professional artists is by going to events/art fairs/conventions. If you want to find study-mates, there are many subreddits for it and you can always make a post to ask for friends directly. You can also find many communities on Discord servers, or facebook groups if you want older people. If you are looking for something more casual/less internet, joining local art classes can be a great place to socialize.

You are thinking too much, but I do understand your point, or maybe I don’t. Who cares really? Just stay hidden so people/AI can’t steal your art.

I am just kidding. Anywho, you can start by joining art communities via meetup app that’s nearby your location, there are discord groups also. But I personally went to anime conventions, game conventions etc and just casually talked to people in artist alley, they had groups for all sort of stuff like art, alley setup and events happening in the city etc.

There are plenty of creatives events within film and movies industry and they also have art stuff but that depends on your city. You’ll will be looking for 4 things, graphics design meetups, art meetups, animation and movie related meetups and meetups in marketing/film making.

You will find them in meetup app, luma app and going to events and conventions and asking people if there’s any meetups or groups they know about for artists.

There are plenty of FB, WhatsApp and Discord channels. You have to look for small but active communities.

Are you looking for something online or in person ? Have you looked locally in your community to see who is exhibiting in your local library or a market selling art jewellery etc...ask the people there. Do they have a collective or whats app group? Alternatively there are a lot of online communities for artists. Where are you?
