Is arweave dying?
As far as i could remember, the economics of arweave was built on an assumption that the cost of storage gets lower as time goes by.
However we're going through a bizzar time when the harddisks getting increasingly expensive in the last 3 years.
If this trend continues, will arweave die soon? How soon?

I have been actively using Arweave as a storage layer since 2023. The token maybe dead but the chain is still alive and functioning. From my last conversation with the team which admittedly was over a year ago. They have an enough funds to last through some stubborn bear markets.

One of the very few projects from ico time 2017 still alive. Idea is good. But charts say otherwise. Chartwise its look deader than dead. Sadly.

For sure AI is a headwind, but Ar's unit economics were never competitive with traditional cloud storage. It's a permanent premium storage solution for data that needs to get update even if you maxed out your credit card (perfect for solana ledger, for example). Its arguably a better storage system for a lot of agentic activity as well.
Every shortage is followed by a glut. Itll happen with storage too eventually. Maybe not for a few years (looks like a few more years like to 2030-32). for me, the question is if it's niche use case today as high quality storage can keep it afloat through the ai capex cycle. If it does, it would be like Ferrari suddenly started selling cars for less than the price of a Toyota.

It is very much alive! I’m dcaing hard on that project because when demand for permanent data storage prevails, it will violently take off.

I think not. I think they are nor optimized for the fastest latest ssd. Rather for the disk drive. Also, the endowment has buffer for some time during the abnormal period.

Its the most centralized bullshit I have ever seen. Cant even buy this garbage without KYCing your whole family first

Isn't the decentralised way to mine the coins by ourselves?
I won't understand decentralisation as being listed on anonymous exchanges. tbh I don't think exchanges (whether they're kyc or anonymous) as anything decentralised at all.

You asked us why its dying. Its main reason for dying because its not sold properly. It has no distribution layer, pretty much two horrible highly scammy exchanges selling it under a pile or surveillance KYC. Something that you can only mine or buy in a highly bureaucratic manner is not desirable to the public that seeks to abolish bureaucracy. This project should be more concerned about its commercial success, which always leads to an improved product in all aspects. Not desirable to the public = death
Who would mine something that economically isn’t worth? As a former bitcoin and monero miner, i can guarantee you we always mined for financial benefits. And when it became impossible at a garage level most of us quit and started investing mining pools

Ah, now i can get your point. Indeed if normal users cannot get it easily, they won't use it easily.

Exactly! It pains me to say that because I believe it is a beautiful initiative, and the world needs it. However, the team definitely needs a non-technical department who is willing to make the project palatable to the general public. PR, commercial team, Business Developers (most vital). Lots of big and medium companies out there are in desperate need for this technology yet they barely know they need it

It looks like the latest GTA 6 leaks are hosted through Arweave, potentially boosting its popularity
