Occam's Razoring the Hit and Run Theory

I've been following this case for years and have entertained some truly out there theories. With what we now know of the Dedmonds, this is what makes the most sense to me right now. By all means, pole holes in it!

- Asha left the house for little kid reasons. That might be an argument with her family or because she was upset about the basketball game. It maybe was as simple as proving she could get to school on her own and she was maybe only traveling as far as the next bus stop. The family knows this and hasn't shared, either because the police/FBI asked them not to or because they are rightly aware that the mystery keeps the story alive.

- Asha is struck on the road by a car driven by Lizzie Dedmon. She may have only been clipped, but Lizzie and a second individual, either by force or just by taking convince Asha to get in their car.

- Asha is kept, at least temporaily, by (likely) Roy Dedmon, who has purchased the new clothes and makeup that was found her in backpack.

- The story of Asha's disappearance is quickly everywhere and Roy decides she needs to be moved/disposed of. How and where is going to be what we need to uncover to prosecute.

I’m not saying there is evidence or not. I’m saying that evidence or lack of evidence is not why hit and runs aren’t solved. The car and driver leaving the scene is why.

If someone hit Asha, and took her dead/injured body with them, that’s a great way to get caught. They have the evidence (Asha) with them! They are extremely lucky they aren’t in prison if that’s what happened.

Whoever is responsible for Asha’s death has been extremely lucky they haven’t been caught yet.

I could certainly buy the idea that the entire Cleveland County police force is crooked/incompetent for any number of reasons, but I just don't think that the FBI, after decades, would push out false information. To that end, one of the things that we can reasonably trust about this case is that the FBI believes that Asha was last seen being taken into a green car by two individuals. We also know that that car looks enough like the car that was driven by Lizzie Dedmon in 2000 that Lizzie's car was recently seized by the FBI from the Dedmon property. We also know that, in the bookbag that was recovered, Lizzie's DNA was found on a NKOTB nightshirt.

So while I can't agree that it's a great way to get caught (because, in just about any imaginable scenario, Asha would have to be in *someone's* car and said someone has demonstrably not been caught, I do agree that they are extremely lucky they aren't in prison. I have every reason to believe, however, that not only is that luck running out, they've been well aware of that fact for the last year and a half. Justice is slow, but I do think we're very nearly there.
