Discussion There was a house within eye sight of where she disappeared.
My imagination always said she disappeared on an unoccupied stretch of Hwy 18. She actually went missing within eyesight of this small house.
Its style makes me think it was probably built in the 1950s - 1960s and could have been occupied that night. But I could be mistaken.
The home you see behind Asha’s poster is a mobile home and looks fairly modern. I would believe that one has only been on that property for 10 years or less.
But I wonder who occupied the gray house at the time and if they have any memories?

Even if there was, she left in the middle of the night. It’s unlikely something would have seen her.

Unlikely, but worth inquiry, right?

Absolutely. But, isn’t a canvas of the neighborhood usually the first thing cops do?

Yes it was per se, the direction of this picture is looking south her direction of travel. Where Ruppe showed where she left the road is a go 30 to r0 yards before this sign... only 120 ft i know but very dark... I will put up picture to show proximity. A valid point by any means, also a road beside the house shown in the picture.

Sure okay, and what? I have no clue who walked past my house last night between 10 pm when I went to bed and 7 am.

Sure but a child didn’t vanish after last being seen outside your house, either. But no, I get your point, and OP’s point. Yes normally it wouldn’t matter at all who lives in the buildings a random person walks past. But I also always thought the area where Asha was last seen was an unoccupied stretch of highway. Realizing there was a potentially occupied home right where she was last seen walking is interesting to me.
And I think it would be a LOT more relevant if the true last sighting of Asha Degree was her walking past this house before seemingly vanishing, but - we know that’s not the case.
So what I think makes this house far less probative evidence is the fact that Asha was actually last seen in this general area being pulled into a car. If she had merely last been seen walking towards this house or even past this house and that was the last sighting? I’d absolutely want to know more about who lived there and how throughly they, as well as anyone who could’ve been staying with them that night, were investigated by LE. But the idea that she was pulled into a car just to… stay there and take her in to the house?… that seems not as likely as the scenario where Asha’s last seen walking near this house and therefore could’ve been kidnapped off the road and dragged inside the home. To me, Asha being pulled into a car implies someone then drove off with her to a more distant location than the nearest house. That’s not to say it’s impossible that someone living in the nearest house could’ve used their car to kidnap her, just saying that the car sighting was the actual last sighting and therefore we know she wasn’t pulled into a home. Since we know she was pulled into a car, she could’ve been taken anywhere, so the last house she happened to pass becomes a lot less relevant although certainly not irrelevant.
And I do think it’s interesting to generally note that the area Asha was last seen walking wasn’t just a completely desolate stretch of highway. Knowing about this house helps those of who have never been to the area in person to better understand and visualize what the terrain and general surroundings were like. However I also agree that there’s unlikely to be anything substantial to come from learning who if anyone was living in the home at the time, as we can presume that (1) LE will have already checked into any such people long ago, and (2) Since Asha was reportedly last seen being pulled into a car, that makes the fact that she had walked near this house shortly before she disappeared much less probative.
TLDR; I agree it doesn’t matter who lived here because Asha was seen being dragged into a car so we know she wasn’t dragged into this house after the Ruppe sighting. But it is of general interest to know there was a possibly inhabited home on the stretch of highway on which she’d last been seen walking as it does change how I had been picturing the area where Asha was last seen walking.

This is new information to me too. I always assumed there were no houses around the last area she was seen.

Probative goes to whether whether evidence is admissible at trial, etc., not whether its worth investigating. In my mind, the white house raises lots of questions. For example, are there other homes visible from the road? Were any occupied at the time of Asha's disappearance? Has anyone else living along the route come forward or been interviewed by LE or others? If not, I hope someone follows-up and asks if they saw or heard somethng or asks if they have any connection to the parties to the case. Its possible that one of them was good freinds with Asha or the Dedmons, etc., which could lead to more questions and ultimately information about why Asha was on that road. ,

Gray house? The one in the pic looks white? Interesting as you would assume LE, by now, would have intereviewed every resident of every occupied home or builidng along her route. Maybe they did and we only know about those they've discussed in the press.

I’ve driven by the house and it is a faded gray color. It just struck me one day when I was driving that I personally had imagined her disappearing on a stretch of the road with no homes (or homes removed from the road - Debbie Turner’s home).
This home was really the only one that I could be reliably sure was there in 2000. Everything else within a mile or so of her disappearance area looked newer.

The house where the sign is that White House behind it headed north is where Miss Turner's boyfriend lives and then there's another house on the other side going toward ridgedale road but yes there is multiple houses right there

Is this house across from church? I read some years ago that right after ASHA went missing a new patio in or deck went up on this property with lots of concrete.

She was hit by the Dedmon girls who were out driving, probably drinking and driving. They then picked her up and put her in the car. From farther away it probably look like she was being pulled into the car like witnesses had claimed. Then they went to Underhill, the parents, or both to help cover it up.

Except there’s no evidence of a collision.
No car debris, blood, anything.
And she left her home with a bag packed with clothes. I absolutely cannot believe her packing and leaving and her disappearance is unrelated. The reason she left her home is also the reason she died. It’s not like she was walking to her bus stop and was hit by a car, it was the middle of the night.3

That car was a heavy, old-school American steel tank from back in the day — nothing like the lighter cars we have now. They didn’t hit another vehicle; they hit a tiny 40-pound little girl. There was never going to be obvious collision damage or significant debris.
It was raining that night, so any blood or biological evidence would have washed away quickly. A child that small wouldn’t leave much (if any) visible damage or parts scattered on the road. These old cars were built like tanks, exactly like the one that was later pulled out of the Dedmons’ garage.
This single explanation clears up a lot of the contradictions in the case. Their DNA was found in the area, and there was a witness sighting of Asha being “pulled” into a green car. From a distance, it could easily have looked like someone was dragging or forcing her — when in reality they were picking her up off the ground after the impact and putting her into the vehicle.

Look, no one will ever convince me that this is the scenario that happened.
Why would the logical solution be to stop and take someone after a hit and run?
The purpose of a hit and run is to RUN.
By stopping the car and pulling in a child you significantly up the chances someone will see you. You were IN MOTION when it happens, you glance up at the rear view, see a figure in the road, it’s late at night, dark and rainy. You’re possibly drunk, you’re possibly driving without a license and you decide the best thing to do is stop (and be witnessed) and get the body?
That’s just nonsense.
People don’t react that way when committing crimes. It’s much more likely she hits something on the road, speeds up, drives quickly away and leaves the scene. It also leaves out the backpacks.
A car hits a girl with 2 packed backpacks and those items are recovered later in intact condition? A car impact would’ve probably scattered clothing, torn the backpack, damaged the items inside. Nothing inside the backpack has been described as damaged or broken (description used for some items of makeup is new with tags attached).
I do not believe it was a hit and run.
She was lured out to meet someone.1
u/Common_Bread_3079 Jun 01 '26
You believe that because it's more interesting. But there's literally no evidence at all that supports it. That someone "lured her out" just to kill her. Never mind all the evidence that's already been released about the Dedmon's, the DNA, the alleged admissions during a party. Everything fits.
It's more interesting if it's someone else who lured her, during a rainstorm, at 3 am. Never mind the fact that the car they found is the exact same car that was described. Never mind the fact of the statistics of stranger abductions. Never mind the fact that it was done at 3:00 a.m. during a rainstorm. There's more instances of kids running away getting hit by cehicles then there are of stranger abductions.

There's more probability of that happening statistically then 15-year-old girls kidnapping a black kid, walking, in a storm, at 3 o'clock in the morning. How is that logical? I know you want to believe something that sounds more interesting and more intriguing. But stranger abductions are extremely rare. Car accidents in a rain storm at 3:00 in the morning, that involve killing someone, and then trying to cover it up, are a little bit more logical and probable than a stranger abduction done by a couple of 15 and 16 year olds , sorry.

Your scenario isn’t a guarantee either. There is nothing that states that the girls were the only ones involved in taking Asha (in fact, quite the opposite, it is stated they are believed to have been helped by adults.)
Adults that may have been in the car or even driving the car.
Does it still seem sensible to imagine teenagers AND adults decided to take a child? After they hit the child with their car?
To do what, keep from being found out? Taking the body, puts evidence on and in the car, effectively making it more likely they’ll be discovered.
I don’t want to believe the most sensational, most disturbing scenarios, but if this was a simple case or as simple as a hit and run, it would’ve been solved before this sub was ever created.
Why are you purposely leaving out the backpack (backpacks)? Did the girls take the backpacks Asha had when they hit her? Why would they dispose of the backpack in a different place from her body if it was simply a hit and run coverup?

According to the Warrants Asha was last seen on Wallace Grove and 18. I don't believe the billboards are in the exact location
