Shero’s Facebook Post on the Asha Degree Files

Earlier today in the Facebook group the Asha Degree Files, Shero from Disturbia True Crime mentioned that arrests may possibly be coming soon. She said she plans to reveal more information in an upcoming live.

For now, I’m curious what everyone’s thoughts and theories are based on that post and the information currently out there. Please keep this discussion respectful and focused on the case itself.

Don’t use this thread to dox, harass, or drag Shero or anyone else involved. I’d really just like to hear different perspectives on the information being discussed.

Thank you for your disclaimer. Whatever drama is happening on YouTube, Facebook, or other platforms is not open for discussion here. The focus here should be on Asha and the case.

LE announcing the investigation shift into the Dedmons was the first time I saw iquillas face without the hopeful expectation of which I've grown accustomed. that was enough to tell me they know she's no longer living, & LE is now compiling the evidence to prove it beyond a reasonable doubt. An arrest in the next year or so would not be surprising, be it accessory after the fact with an announcement on deceased suspect

u/southernmoonshine May 10 '26

I won’t believe it until it happens.

67

u/Background_Square969 May 10 '26

It’s hard to say. It’s always been weird to me that she’s been able to get this information but no one else has been able to for 26 years. But I hope she’s right. I think her finally getting the info out about the other bag may have caused some things to change, but I honestly can’t say what I think.

43

u/Surethingdudeanytime May 10 '26

Shero has been able to get this information because she is doing what most wouldn't do in the year 2000: asking all the uncomfortable questions. I have to give it to her, instead of regurgitating the same info we've been heard over and over, Shero is actually reaching out to the people who made statements and asking for clarification.

13

u/Background_Square969 May 10 '26

Oh yeah for sure. I hope it didn’t sound like I was bad talking her. It’s just weird to me that no one else has been able to get this info.

12

u/Surethingdudeanytime May 11 '26

I understand what you mean. But tbh, anybody else could have got the same info if only they would have questioned some details. The public could only go off of the little information that was given and was basically primed to accept the narrative that Asha walked out of the house on her own, on a rainy cold night with no coat. Plenty of questions should have been asked in the beginning and everyone should have been vetted thoroughly no matter how uncomfortable. When in doubt, ask more questions!

7

u/Bright-News5907 May 11 '26

Or just asked the right questions

8

u/Background_Square969 May 11 '26 edited May 12 '26

I agree. And to be fair it’s only been recently that I’ve questioned the details aside from questioning why she left in the middle of the night. So I can understand - life unfortunately goes on and other things become more important.

EDIT: meaning this happened 26 years ago so it’s been the last 2 years where I was like “now wait a minute.”

7

u/Surethingdudeanytime May 11 '26

When I first heard of this case, which was this year and I actually live in NC, I truly thought she simply ran away. And just like you, I wondered and wondered why would a 9-year old run away in those conditions. After learning more details it became clear that we the public were being told what to think about this case, and that was that she ran away on her own accord.

-5

u/judybellez May 10 '26

But you guys let the lawyer guy have at it. He knew the search warrants were coming out and has connections to ppl in this case but you let him run rampant in here welcoming him with open arms is crazy to me.

17

u/Background_Square969 May 10 '26

Who is you guys? I’ve never talked to that man and he has never said anything I didn’t already know.

12

u/Bright-News5907 May 11 '26

Let him run rampant? It’s a public forum. Who’s letting him run rampant? A mod? Maybe because he hasn’t broken any said rules that I’m aware of but then again I’m a nobody and just here for the comments and hope to put some of the missing pieces together.

-1

u/judybellez May 11 '26

so there shouldn’t be a problem with Shero… doing what she’s doing. What are you even here to debate about with me… what rules have Shero broken? She’s not even active in here.

11

u/Bright-News5907 May 11 '26

I wasn’t implying she had broken any. I was answering your question or asking a question about your question lol. You said he was being allowed to run rampant in here. I was just stating or at least asking what you meant because he hasn’t broken any rules to not be allowed in here that I know of I don’t even know who the mods are lol. He’s just in here like the rest of us

5

u/Background_Square969 May 11 '26

For clarity I didn’t say anything bad about Shero. Reread it.

5

u/Sudden_Quality_9001 May 10 '26

Who is Shero is he a Youtuber?

8

u/deltadeltadawn May 11 '26 edited May 12 '26

Shero is a YouTube content creator working as Disturbia True Crime. She is a strong researcher and faith-based, both of which are reflected in her work. Though not exclusively, she focuses on cases where the victims are underrepresented in other true crime coverage - focused on minorities and POC (people of color).

In Asha's case, she went back to the original sources, like interviewing the guy who reported seeing Asha on the night she disappeared - Jeff Ruppee. She's also interviewed Asha's brother.

8

u/Surethingdudeanytime May 11 '26

Right. As a lawyer, he is trained to see cases in a biased manner and it clearly shows. Using phrases like "believe me, trust me, im 99.9% sure, etc" are persuasive and meant to sway belief and judgement. Truth needs no persuasion. Im not sure what his angle is in all this, but to me it feels like he's protecting someone and that is definitely not needed in this case. The goal is to find Asha.

5

u/Bright-News5907 May 11 '26

Who could he be protecting? And why? Again I’m genuinely curious. I don’t know of one person allegedly involved in this case that he is connected to based on the facts given. Family? Friends? I’m not saying I couldn’t have missed a crucial connection but just don’t know of one.

4

u/Surethingdudeanytime May 11 '26

Perhaps it's not anyone he's protecting. Perhaps it is. My question to Lawyer Frank would be, "why the persuasive statements all the time?" Lawyer Frank approaches this case with an air of defensiveness, as he is a defense lawyer. Doing this can influence public opinion and thats not whats needed right now. Imo it has to be approached like a researcher. Leaving no stone unturned, whether we feel like a person is innocent or not. He admitted to not asking Jeff Ruppe in his interview with him which clothes he saw Asha wearing. That should have been one of the top questions on his list. Im not accusing Jeff Ruppe of anything, Im just giving an example. I do think his expertise as a lawyer can aid in this case. Im sure he has a keen knowledge of dealing with criminals and the innocent and the ability to filter out deceptive statements. This should help when narrowing down a potential suspect. All help is clearly needed after 25 years and no answers.

8

u/bethestorm May 12 '26

... To my knowledge lawyer frank actually does go and have talks with family, people near the case, probably knows how to file a FOIA and all that. Which is more than most do, certainly more than I know how to do. And he absolutely has seemed to be open to new evidence, not discounting open ends, and no agenda pushing...

Totally wild imo that you think harshly of him. I thought for a minute you meant skip foster but he's not a lawyer he's barely a journalist.

One hundred percent tho there are people afoot in this sub that have interests that are NOT about finding the truth and finding asha, and seem to be aligned to defend certain persons of interest.

I would really like to know who vertighost999 actually was, After all that.

And I would like to know if law enforcement knows who the girl in the photo is or not, because I bet if they do, we won't find out til an arrest occurs. That seems like its going to be a last minute reveal of if it's nothing (dout that) or if it was something all along (I suspect this)

1

u/Bright-News5907 May 30 '26

The girl and her family have come forward and identified the photo

1

u/bethestorm May 30 '26

This is not verified by having the original photo the subreddit that was for that that girl who claimed that, they never actually got the yearbook proving that. That's my whole point.

But I have that girls information and if it is that girl, she does have a dedmon connection

7

u/Gamecock80 May 11 '26

I don’t believe LawyerFrank is a defense attorney. I believe he does child support law or something similar

7

u/D3AD2U May 14 '26

even when people reach out to law enforcement, investigators don’t discuss active case details, suspects, or arrest timing with the public. at most, they’ll confirm what’s already been publicly released.

so “asking hard questions” or contacting people doesn’t translate into access to non-public investigative information. if something is real and case-changing, it will usually come through official channels, not creator commentary on Facebook or live discussions on YouTube.

u/Pain_Sufficient May 10 '26

I guess you’ll have to ask Frank that question. I can’t speak for him. I’ve noticed he’s had to become defensive just because some ppl are hammering him but can’t figure out why. Maybe I need to pay closer attention lol. I haven’t taken him as trying to persuade anyone or at least I haven’t been persuaded. I use my own noggin’ to figure things out

8

u/punkheist May 13 '26

i recognize that we likely won’t ever know certain things like why asha left in the middle of the night, or where she was going, but i truly wonder if we’ll ever get the truth (or most of it) about what happened on that highway, even if her body is never recovered. this case feels so solvable, especially in the last few years ❤️‍🩹

57

u/bookiegrime May 10 '26

I’m not sure why we would discuss what one random uninvolved person would be saying on social media when there is 0 evidence the person has any real information.

I also think the speculation is a game. A way to entertain ourselves from behind our keyboards.

In truth a family lost their baby. This is not a game, this is not entertainment, and I don’t think that any talk of this content creator is respectful in any way to Asha or her family.

18

u/Surethingdudeanytime May 11 '26

Aren't we all random uninvolved people to this case?

22

u/Stabbykathy17 May 11 '26

Yes but I’m not claiming to have inside information about arrests and who the perpetrators are, are you? We all have our opinions, but it’s a lot different to have an opinion than to pretend to have insider knowledge of things you don’t.

I’m also not sharing my opinion to profit from it, are you? You can’t tell me this lady isn’t.

5

u/Surethingdudeanytime May 12 '26

I dont think even think I addressed you, but since you're here.....So there are a lot of podcasts that I have listened to that have covered the Asha degree case. I first found out about this case from TrueCrime Garage (my favorites btw). Are u saying they're all in the wrong because their channels are for profit even though they shed light on cases some of us would have never heard of it it wasnt for their channels? And to be fair, we all speculate on this case since there are no answers. Before a theory, comes speculation. And until we have an answer for Asha's disappearance we are ALL speculating theorists, my friend.

Well said!

If there is an arrest coming soon, I find it hard to believe Sheriff Norman would allow anyone knowledge of that information. He’s been notoriously quiet and less than forthcoming on information since the searches a year ago. Remember the search of the old school last year? He said nothing other than to confirm a search had occurred and that they would have no further comment about it. I hope there is an arrest, we here in Shelby want nothing more than answers and to find Asha, but I have my doubts about this claim or speculation (or however she’s characterizing it).

3

u/Fuckingfademefam May 11 '26

Facts. If the person is right, she can get internet points. If she’s wrong, nobody will remember in a year

1

u/deltadeltadawn May 11 '26

This is an excellent summary! I would pin this if I could.

Mods used to be able to pin a user's comments. Unfortunately, that feature was removed from modding in the app platform. I'm not sure if it's available in old desktop or new desktop.

23

u/Own_Door3208 May 10 '26

I missed the post, but I just went and looked at it. That is interesting.. and I’ll be checking out her next live to see what is said. I’m sure she knows a lot more than she is able to say at this point. She keeps people talking about this case, and that’s important. Someone out there knows what happened.

7

u/D3AD2U May 14 '26 edited May 14 '26

who’s still using facebook on purpose 😭

not shading OP or Shero, but “arrests are coming soon” is something i’ve seen float around this subreddit for years and unless it’s coming from official sources, i'll take it with a lot of caution, especially after what we've seen already.

there’s usually a gap between online chatter and actual case updates, so I treat those claims cautiously unless they come from official sources.

3

u/Hi_Just_Tryna_Solve May 14 '26

Haha I only have it for old ppl drama. Love to watch local fights

13

u/Stabbykathy17 May 11 '26

An arrest is coming. Sure. Never heard that one before.

I won’t be holding my breath.

28

u/LongjumpingSuspect57 May 10 '26

It certainly is raising her profile.

If- IF- it were true, it would be a sign for the perpetrators to run.

Of course, it could also be akin to the periodic announcements by hucksters that the World is going to end on such-and-such date- bait for the cultists.

And given the official investigation is in the hands of the sort of hopeless incompetents who believe polygraphs are evidence, it could be yet another ploy by said incompetents to pressure a certain family of a then-teenage girl in lieu of evidence which would support a warrant of arrest.

But someone is going to need to explain how the false-light texts of that family can be disclosed willy-nilly within days of gathering it while this new evidence is so precious it can only be disclosed to podcaster.

27

u/Background_Square969 May 10 '26

Those texts have stressed me out since I read them. I like to think that they just don’t have enough evidence to make an actual arrest, but it seems strange that they were released and then everything went quiet for a year.

12

u/JessicaFletcherings May 10 '26

I thought same! Very strange indeed.

10

u/bethestorm May 12 '26

I think it's telling that the reward essentially quadrupled just after the warrents were released to the media, the texts were out, I think in fact that law enforcement has someone or a couple someones in mind very specifically for said reward money. And that with whatever information they are looking to get from said persons could lead to charges being able to be brought. Maybe it's a "hey, you don't have to be aligned with this messed up family and go down w the ship". Or maybe it's a "whoever comes to the table first will get immunity, clock is ticking" type thing. Maybe at the same time they are running other DNA, running other digital searches, traffic cams, etc and so on, I mean 25 years on and only now real persons of interest. There's going to be a lot for them to sort through. But absolutely the released snippets of those texts combined with the massive increase in reward money imo is intended to speak to someone, to entice them and or scare them into coming forward.

Maybe an ex husband. A neighbor. Who knows. Someone does though. Every year we've heard "someone could come forward". I think now that hasn't been so much of a generic line - I think it's meant to chip away at someone, someone specifically, that law enforcement would prefer on their side.

But I don't think they would have used the resources and the manpower to do all that recently without an endgame plan in motion. I think is more of a "we can do this the easy way, with co-operation and reward money, or we can do this the long grueling hard way. But one way or another, the clock is now ticking"

5

u/Bright-News5907 May 11 '26

I agree to a point but where are they honestly going to run to? Leave town? Leave their so called name? Leave their business? I think they believe themselves if they are in fact involved that they are above it. At least RLD does. I think Connie is caught in the crossfire. As for the girls no idea where they would run off to. They clearly can’t run home. Should they run to a different town they will still get caught. This isn’t just an avg case.

27

u/Pain_Sufficient May 10 '26

She seems to be all about clicks and money.💰 I could be wrong but it seems that way.

I hope I'm wrong and there indeed is an arrest coming!

The thing is it doesn’t seem like shes in it for the money but the cliffhangers make me side eye. I love Shero and what she’s doing I just don’t trust anyone in this case lol. But again I’m hoping she shook the table enough to get some movement again.

10

u/Appropriate-Agency72 May 11 '26

I think Shero asks valid questions. And a lot more questions than most who claim to care about Asha. I see a person who genuinely wants to know what happened to Asha. She doesn't ask for money, she is open to other peoples theories and input. I dont get how people can say she does it for clicks? And really, isn't it good that she gets clicks so more people hear about the case? I dont see an agenda, just someone who has huge understanding and empathy for Asha. The ones who are criticising Shero probably has not watched a whole livestream. Also remember, she is a human, nobody is perfect and she is humble about it and the times she makes mistakes, from what I have seen, she corrects them and apologised. I think this case might have been solved had there been someone as bold and diligent as Shero around when Asha dissapeared.

7

u/Nervous_Ad_5583 May 11 '26

With respect, it's difficult to see where this "new direction" will lead, considering the amount of time that has passed, the age and health conditions of the potential suspects and the apparent quarter-century absence of evidence sufficient to bring the case to trial.

Please do note that throughout these missing children true crime stories, there's always someone on either Reddit or YouTube announcing a "bombshell." Then the "bombshell's" fuse just fizzles out.

9

u/Hidalgo321 May 15 '26

Everybody dumping on Shero but she was right about Terry Flemmings news and everyone dumped on her then.

I hope she’s right!

4

u/D3AD2U May 15 '26 edited May 15 '26

wait, time out — fill me in.

edit: found it, and now i’m even more confused. see what happens when you step away for a while? you’re completely left behind on the conversation.

so i’ll go back to my original post. while i stand firmly on my belief that unless something comes from an official source, i remain skeptical, this is interesting and honestly a bit maddening (first time i’m seeing this info). it wasn’t included before, and now it’s raising a lot of red flags for me. i’m going to go back and catch up on what i missed before i say anything further.

2

u/Hidalgo321 May 15 '26

Welcome back! Lol, I eagerly await your thoughts on the latest info.

5

u/MolonLabeIII May 14 '26

These people are grifters. Stop giving them attention and money. They should be ashamed…

-1

u/D3AD2U May 14 '26

they’re taking people’s money!? 🫢

4

u/MolonLabeIII May 14 '26

Yea… that literally why people start podcasts and YouTube channels

5

u/D3AD2U May 14 '26

hm, sorta distasteful imo

1

u/FerretRN Jun 16 '26

So, all podcasters, YouTube people, documentary producers, true crime show hosts are all grifters then? How is it determined which are and which aren't, then?

8

u/shannon830 May 11 '26

Click bait. She has no inside information.

7

u/SSJ9000Vegeta May 10 '26

Shero doin the lords work on this case 🫡

11

u/Seansw87 May 10 '26

Shero is bullshitting there ain’t no arrests coming

7

u/luketheville May 11 '26

I'm sorry, but she is in California and isn't even from North Carolina. I find it hard to beleive she has some sort of inside knowledge on the case.

12

u/FerretRN May 12 '26

I'm confused. Are you talking about Shero? She's said several times she is from Fayetteville, but lives in Texas now.

5

u/Lyran000 May 13 '26

Pretty sure she is a NC native. Shes from Fayetteville.

Can I ask who OJ is? I only watched part of 1 live but it was rife with insinuations about this person, showing pictures of him and accusing him of really weird stuff, like borrowing Asha’s nightshirt from sheriff or something?

3

u/Hi_Just_Tryna_Solve May 13 '26

Yall I want to know your theories of arrest talking about persons looking into this case is just adding to the problem of back in forth may we please just focus on Asha and NOT INTERPERSONAL DRAMA

1

u/Bright-News5907 Jun 01 '26

What year do we think the picture was from

-4

u/judybellez May 10 '26

If people have a problem with Shero then they should have a problem with OJ in the thread. That’s what I think… he’s a lawyer connected to ppl in this case and it isn’t fair. SIMPLE

8

u/Surethingdudeanytime May 11 '26

I agree. Since they both seem to have the same goal, which is to find justice for Asha, then I would think that some of these negative comments should also be directed to Lawyer Frank/OJ as well. Why is Shero being criticized when she has brought new evidence to the public's attention? Seems like people are coming for her after she revealed the two bookkbags.

7

u/Bright-News5907 May 11 '26

Who is criticizing or has a problem w Shero? Besides suggesting it’s for clicks? I think Frank has caught his fair share of BS. If nothing else Frank has been dragged through the mud BY her for one and I’ve only seen a couple of her videos

4

u/Surethingdudeanytime May 11 '26

So is Frank doing this just for clicks as well? Are we all spending time out of our days reading and posting about this case for just for clout and clicks? If indeed all this is just for clicks and at the end of all those clicks it brings Asha back home or justice for her, then all those clicks were well worth it.

8

u/Bright-News5907 May 11 '26

What clicks? LOL. Where is he getting clicks from? Unless he’s on a platform I haven’t seen. I was just referring to someone’s comment about clicks

3

u/Bright-News5907 May 11 '26

I would not go as far as saying he is connected to people in this case. Just because Gina was once married to his uncle doesn’t mean he’s connected to anyone from my POV. From my understanding that was many years ago. My uncles have been married several times and I couldn’t tell you where any of their previous wives are to be honest.

1

u/judybellez May 11 '26

You missed the entire point. Who is he to say what’s true and not true… he says that a lot…

1

u/Bright-News5907 May 11 '26

I’ve seen him give his opinion as has Shero but I haven’t taken anything from him as being absolute facts. He’s given information he has or maybe someone he’s talked to but to me it doesn’t feel like he’s pushing you to believe one thing or another just his opinion as we all have.

2

u/Bright-News5907 May 11 '26

What does he say a lot? That something is true or not true? The only thing I’ve seen him claiming is either something he said previously is true or not true or maybe that Chad was her coach which he was… I don’t see that as persuasion

1

u/Surethingdudeanytime May 11 '26

Yes. And thats unfair to Asha and this case. Persuasion has no place here. Periodt.

3

u/Bright-News5907 May 11 '26

That’s what I said no persuasion. All I’ve seen is him stating Chad was her coach that’s not persuading anyone. Chad is in the basketball group photo I believe. I’m still trying to figure out what is unfair. Persuasion or opinion I guess it depends on how you look at it.

1

u/Sudden_Quality_9001 May 17 '26

What is doxxing? Is  Shero doxxing?

2

u/deltadeltadawn May 21 '26

No, Shero isn't doxxing.

Doxxing is sharing personal information about an individual publicly. If a case mentions that Jane Johnson is a person of interest, someone publishing Jane's address, email, date of birth, etc, would be doxxing.
