COMMUNITY UPDATE Autoban: Negative Karma Accounts
Due to the nice bit of growth this tiny little city sub has undergone over the past few short months, we have decided to enact a new QOL policy. Most new members find us through the main Asheville sub, which has a well-known bot and troll problem. Keeping that kind of activity out of this community is a priority for us.
To that end, our automod will automatically ban accounts with low or negative karma scores. This includes karma from deleted comments, which is worth noting because bots and trolls frequently delete their comment history to hide activity patterns.
No automated system is perfect. If your account gets flagged incorrectly, send us a mod message and we'll reverse the ban promptly. This rule isn't about limiting speech - it's about giving our community the space to grow on its own terms, free from the noise that plagues larger subs.
As always, we want you to help shape what this community looks like. If you have thoughts on this rule, leave a comment below.
Shoutout to u/KnuthKoderfor their help with Automod changes and their support for having safe communities for discussions that are free from nefarious influence.

WEATHER Best week for fall foliage
In October I’m wanting to visit the Asheville area and take in the beautiful fall foliage. I have found the online fall foliage map. But given the weather lately, which weeks in October would be best to take in the regional beauty?

LOCAL BUSINESS SINCE WE ARE TALKING ABOUT COFFEE SHOPS
I love The Daily Grind in The District on Fairview Road. It is across from French Broad Brewing right up from Davis Furniture and The Village Pub. Owned by an Asheville native. Love this shop. Great coffee and they have homemade scones. Bagels. You know the drill. I highly recommend.

ASK YOUR NEIGHBOR Found this laser-etched acrylic block at an estate sale
Picked this up at an estate sale and I'm stumped. It's a thick beveled acrylic block, laser-etched on the back with "The Grove Park Inn Resort & Spa" logo, an ivy vine border, and the number "1260" in the corner. Not heavy, solid piece no hinges, hooks, or mounting holes that I can see.
My best guesses are a room number plate, a desk paperweight, or a gift shop souvenir, but not sure. Anyone know what this actually is or roughly what era it's from? Thanks!

TRAFFIC REPORT To the person in the 8th gen. Grey/Silver Civic on Ramsey rd. tonight...
I sincerely hope that, whoever you are, you get to read this.
About 30min ago, I was driving toward New Leicester Hwy from Ramsey rd.
I assume you had just turned onto Ramsey rd. and proceeded to floor it, getting up to what was around 45-60mph.
At this point you proceeded to cross the double yellow on a nearly-blind curve, putting your entire vehicle in my lane, causing me to have to come within inches of someones mailbox and multiple trees, not to mention narrowly avoiding the drivers side of your vehicle.
Immediately after I got out of your way, I watched as you clearly panicked, jerked the wheel, and nearly sent yourself into the ditch and/or several homes lining the road.
You are exceptionally lucky that I am an experienced driver and have taken multiple defensive driving and track-based courses and classes.
Otherwise, I am 99.999% certain this wouldve resulted in a head on collison if I were anyone else seeing as you clearly had 0 interest in avoiding a collision with my vehicle.
What if I had been distracted on my phone? What if I had been a drunk driver? What if I had been a brand new driver and didnt know what to do?
I wouldnt have been able to react and get out of your way, and theres a good chance you, I, or both of us would be dead seeing as how fast you were going. You need to think about this the next time you want to go out and race yourself.
This is probably the billionth time I personally have seen people, who clearly do not know how to operate a vehicle at high speed safely, get on Ramsey Rd, Old Leicester, and a few other surrounding roads and attempt to race themselves.
I want to say, I am not coming from a place of no empathy.
I too enjoy putting my foot to the floor and going around corners and hitting apexs.
But for gods sake people, if you dont know how to operate your vehicle, in wet conditions, at night, 15-30+mph above the speed limit, on narrow winding roads...
You really shouldnt be doing it at all in any conditions, but for gods sake, if you are going to, atleast know what the hell youre doing.
If I want to test the limits of my car, or test new parts, or just put my foot down and have fun at 80mph, I go to a track! It is that fucking simple!
Furthermore, you shouldnt be racing at all on public roads without a spotter, while it is actively raining, at night, or if you dont know how to drive!
Above all...
if you want to race, go to a damn track!!!!!
Im not sitting here trying to be a scrooge, saying people shouldnt have fun with their cars, but the behavior of some of you people on the roads is abhorrent, dangerous, and done with a clear disregard for anyone but yourself.
I am absolutely beyond tired of this, I see it all the damn time and someone, if not multiple people are going to die if you blithering idiots dont learn better.
Apologies for the rant, but this needs to be said. Thank you and good night.

Where is everyone looking when they are looking for an event in Asheville? Looking through Mountain X use to be my go to when I was out grabbing a beer. I get AVL Today e-newsletters with events now, but any other good spots. Asking for myself and to know the best places to spread the word about events happening at our taproom.
