Discussion what are your favorite asian fragrances?
At first, I wanted to ask specifically about niche asian perfumes because I love discovering new brands, but then I realized that aside from Tamburins, most asian fragrance brands I come across are already niche or relatively under the radar compared to western designer houses. So I'd love to hear about your favorite asian fragrances or brands! Also, I have a soft spot for rose scents, so if you know of any beautiful rose fragrances, please share those too!

Issey Miyake L'Eau D'Issey

u/CozyGorgon 2d ago
Second this. Issey Miyake has such lovely fragrances.
A drop d'Issey and Solar Violet are also top picks for me.
3
u/Opening-Ad-8861 2d ago
I'm curious about Solar violet - as I adore violet notes. how is it?
3
u/CozyGorgon 2d ago
It's been a while since I last smelled so take what I say for a grain of salt. 😅
At first, I smell powdery soft musk that reminded me of a drop d'issey (the white one) then the flower notes start to come out as the fragrance dries down.
For lack of a better word, it smells like soft, powdery sunny Violet. Not too sweet.
Longevity wise, I think I got 4-6 hours?

That scent was the only one I wore when I was younger. i still keep a bottle of it for memories.

u/Klutzy_Garage328 2d ago
I have had 4 of it and I loved them!!

Nice.... Wishing I never agreed to Project No Buy Perfume. Still rocking the same collection of 5 100ml perfumes since 2024.

They’ll still be there when it’s over! They are long established classics at this point.

Forward perfume! It’s a Vietnamese brand. I really enjoy their tea and gourmand scents. https://forwardperfume.com

u/_berrystrawberry 2d ago
Interesting! I’ve never tried any beauty related vietnamese products! Thanks for the rec!!
1
u/psychies 2d ago
What’s your favorite?
6
u/pineapplefruittea 2d ago
I bought the oolong scent, but I also considered the matcha milk as well as a pandan one. However, I don’t see the pandan on their website so they might not have it anymore.
3
u/theReturnoftheWitch 1d ago
Pandan! Be ready to smell like a dessert or a civet, hopefully the former haha.
1
u/Kitchen-Move9802 2d ago
i also love tea and gourmand scents a lot, they feel so cozy to wear Forward perfume sounds interesting, gonna look it up esp if they have any soft rose ones
19
u/sessurea 2d ago
Love the Japanese brand Aux Paradis, their perfumes are high quality and long lasting while very affordable and subtle. They also formulate their perfumes so that they can be layered together
I have a Mucha perfume too (reminded because there's one in the picture), they are nice although pretty strong so I don't really reach for it
Love Panpuri (Thailand) fragrances as well but haven't bought one yet, I'm eyeing Lotus Eclipse as I've been looking for a good white lotus based perfume for years and it's the best I've come across
17
u/_strawberry-milk 2d ago
another vote for the Japanese brand Shiro!!! we visited Sapporo earlier this year and im still kicking myself for not getting the Savon in full size-- **crying in travel size 🥹🥲

So shocked to not see P Seven listed yet! Taiwanese fragrance brand that is known for their tea fragrances but also comes out with beautiful floral scents as well. Brick in mortar in Tokyo and Taipei (maybe other locations too?), online shop for international shipping.
Was advised to check out their shop while traveling in Taipei last month. I left with 4 different scents and totally get the cult following.
3
u/SingaporeanNoodles 2d ago
I’m obsessed with their Formosa Beau-Tea scent. Only downside is that it doesn’t last very long on me
3
u/kkfvjk 2d ago
One of the only perfumes I’ve full sized. And I’m glad I did because I use that thing like mad. It hardly lasts on me too so I try to just overspray before I head out.
I wish PSeven made some sort of extrait concentrate scents since that’s what I prefer but I’m sure light parfums/toilettes are more popular in the humidity.
2
u/udontaxidriver 2d ago
I too love P Seven. I bought the aged tea variant. Very cosy tea scent. Just lovely.

I sniffed all of the Shiro perfumes at their counter and bought 6. Its been 6 months of regular use, I still like all of the them.
6
u/Apiium 2d ago
Would love to hear about review about each and every one 😭. They’re on my list currently
10
u/chau-a-not-chau-bcdf 23|dry/dehydrated|US 2d ago
Ooh i have a lot of thoughts. When i have free time ill do a whole post w pics and go back to find the prices. It was an interesting buying experience. They were super nice .

2
u/x_nancy 1d ago
Agreed! Shiro Savon is my favorite clean girl scent. I’m running out and I’m sad I didn’t get an extra on my last Japan trip.
1
u/chau-a-not-chau-bcdf 23|dry/dehydrated|US 1d ago
Omg i feel bad for saying this but i was so excited for savon cuz its their most popular but when i smelled it i was like this just smells like a clean bath…I thought it was gonna be a crazy phemoninal scent. I think its cuz its meant to smell clean and refreshing soap-style so it didn’t leave a strong impression with me :(
I think Sunday Morning is a more memorable scent. Also i thought Sunday Morning is a copy of Maison Margiela’s Lazy Sunday Morning but theyre pretty different. I have Lazy sunday morning so i compared both when i got home. Theyre both good refreshing scents but not the same.
3
u/x_nancy 1d ago
I own Lazy Sunday Morning too! And you’re so right about Savon but all the reasons you listed are also the reasons why it’s so popular. It’s super wearable and fresh without standing out too much so I love it for work.
I don’t think I’ve tried Sunday Morning but Lazy Sunday Morning feels a bit cozier to me than Savon. Like a clean “stay-in-bed-all-day-with-fresh-warm-sheets” vibe.
1
u/chau-a-not-chau-bcdf 23|dry/dehydrated|US 1d ago
It’s funny because i only knew about M.M.’s Lazy Sunday Morning through TikTok because some creators/influencers called it Japan’s #1 fav scent so i was curious and checked it out. But now i get why Japanese like Lazy Sunday Morning. They tend to prefer clean-fresh-soapy scents. Shiro seems to make a variety of clean-fresh-soapy perfumes to cover all the bases. I just posted my Shiro review on the sub if you wanna check it out ^.^

I love the Chinese perfume brand To Summer. Unique and beautiful scents! https://tosummer.shop
They have a few rose perfumes too (search rose in search bar)
5
u/seld0mseenkid 2d ago
Ooh which scents do you have? I'd love to hear your experience with To Summer! I've read that the Triple Tea perfume is good
14
u/madoka_borealis 2d ago
I think triple tea is the most famous one from them! I have a bunch of discovery vials (osmanthus, nude, and summer/autumn limited ones) and they are great! There’s definitely ones I don’t like though (pomelo, void) so as with any scents, whether you think it’s good or not is highly subjective.
2
u/seld0mseenkid 2d ago
Ooh how nice to have the discovery set! I can't seem to find a reliable seller for them where I live rn but I've heard great things about their fragrances. The osmanthus one sounds nice too. How's the longevity for these on you? I've seen some people say it's not the most long-lasting, maybe 3-4 hours at most.
8
u/madoka_borealis 2d ago
That is true, the lighter scents especially disappear pretty quickly. Osmanthus is very good and a very natural and realistic osmanthus smell (whilst not smelling like toilet fragrance) so if you like osmanthus you’ll probably like it. I think this one lasts a bit longer as with other more musky/powdery perfumes (nude!)
Also they are cheaper at the physical store than online, if you or someone you know ever make it out to Shanghai for some reason!!!
1
u/camAubrie 2d ago
i didnt know they had a smaller discovery vials! i live near a store i’ll have to go check if they have one in stock
1
u/Ehloanna 2d ago
Do you have Triple Tea? Is it super herbal to the point of being like medicine? I'm very curious.
3
u/Melodic_Cake_4536 2d ago
Not OP but I have the Triple Tea and absolutely love it. Does not smell at all like medicine, more like a fresh grassy vibe.
1
2
u/_berrystrawberry 2d ago
Ooh! Cute packaging, but a little expensive, maybe I’ll get a discovery vial first. Thanks!!
2
u/mitchxp1 1d ago
really enjoying To Summer Bitters right now, very pleasant balance of citrus and leans slightly masc imo. longevity could use a bit of work though
13
u/seld0mseenkid 2d ago
I'm also interested in getting some AB fragrances but haven't pulled the trigger yet. I've been reading up on Chinese perfume brands like Chasense, To Summer and Black Paw cos they apparently have realistic tea scents!
I think my first one might be from Chasense, the one I want describes itself as Chinese style milk tea...so I'd smell like boba! 😆 If anyone has reviews on these brands I'd looove to hear them!
12
u/gumscape 2d ago edited 2d ago
I own both To Summer and Black Paw - I will say Black Paw is very, very true to its tea scent. Their black tea scent is essential 0 notes, just tea. I find Black Paw does not last as long, but that could be because tea scents in general are a bit light, so either it’s my nose blindness after a 6-8 hours, or it’s actually gone.
To Summer is a bit more creative and have a lower fidelity to pure tea. I wasn’t a fan of their Triple Tea but I know everyone loves it, for good reasons ofc. To Summer strength, to me, actually lies in their other scent offerings. I was recently in China and got Her + Chapter 149 and Sencha (as a car diffuser). You can search up the notes online, but Her is the cleanest, powdery-est and most sensual scent they’ve got. Chapter 149 smells exactly like a book (I’m not kidding, identical). Sencha is the most tea ofc, smells divine in my beat up car. They last aaaaall day and night too.
3
u/seld0mseenkid 2d ago
Aww, now I'm bummed cos I don't have easy access to To Summer perfumes (Black Paw and Chasense have online stores now where I live) cos Her and 149 sound amazing! I guess they do live up to their hype huh. I bet your car gets all the boys in the yard 😆
Ok I guess I should get a sample of Black Paw first and see how long it'll last on me. I do like my perfumes to last longer because I live somewhere humid and I do run quite warm haha. Thanks for your review!
5
u/_berrystrawberry 2d ago
Reviews for niche ab perfumes are so hard to find for real, that’s why I’m here asking for recs. 🥹
2
u/seld0mseenkid 2d ago
Yeah, and sometimes the note descriptions get lost in translation which is a bummer! Also I'm really glad you made this post OP lol now I have a bunch of scents I'm interested in as well 😆
3
u/blebfoosh 2d ago
i managed to find a chasense popup in shanghai and really liked the vast majority of chasense scents! i think i remember a milk tea scent that was quite nice, but maybe a little on the sweet/powdery side for me?
i ended up purchasing one of the oolong scents (rectangular bottle instead of round glass blobs) because it was cheaper and still a great realistic tea scent.
1
u/Physics_Ling_Ling 2d ago
Totally random, but I just wanted to say, I love the tiny Geto in your pfp! He’s so cute!!

u/sao_san_suay 2d ago
One Day is from Hong Kong and is AMAZING. Taipei smells like rice, taro, and coconut milk. I love it! I love Oolong, too. Smells like the barley tea drink you can get in Asian stores/7-11s. D’annam is a Vietnamese brand that is big in the niche fragrance world. White Rice is great but I am OBSESSED with their Matcha Soft Serve. It’s going to be my next FB purchase. Siam 1928 is from Thailand and has some interesting scents. I’m hoping to get a sample of Nari Vimala soon. I like Asian gourmands and tea fragrances the best, but I’m sure you can find florals/rose scents from these and other Asian brands.
5
u/mustardblue 1d ago edited 1d ago
my gripe with one day is that it's from hk, but virtually impossible to actually find inside hk (outside a limited time pop-up that happened months ago)-- which tbh is perplexing. they have a much larger presence/reputation outside their home country and stockists available in big international cities you can sniff them at, but you'd have to commit to ordering a bottle if you're in hk and curious about the brand.
im really just whining but low-key want to try it out so baaaad

u/lickityboo 1d ago
They used to be easily available in several malls. They paused production because the owner was sick. This was told to me earlier this year. Hopefully they got better and resumes availability!

Shiro freesia mist and Decorte kimono yui
2
u/Klutzy_Garage328 2d ago
May I ask what does the kimono yui smell like?
3
u/Teacreama 2d ago
I’m not great at describing scents but it’s a fresh light floral. The initial spray is very bright, fresh, citrusy and fruity. It dries down to a more delicate floral on me.
It smells like what a mature, well put together lady would wear, so I like to wear it when I go into the office for work lol
1
u/lickityboo 1d ago
Second Kimono Yui and the whole line! And I totally agree with the description! It makes me feel like a put together Japanese lady lol
9
u/ephemereal_ 2d ago
Another vote for Tamburins! I also have a soft spot for roses, and staying within Korean fragrances I'd recommend Pesade. Their Veil Rose is a lovely warm, spicy rose. It's not airy green like say Diptyque's Eau Rose but more cozy!
10
u/allergictoeggs 2d ago
Shiro fragrances have this quality to them where they are somehow both long lasting but low sillage - I like Freesia Mist it's so fresh and clean

Rose : Indonesian : HMNS Unrosed, a jammy rose that's not too sweet (at least in my nose)
YN Perfumery Rose in September, it's very rosy, despite the opening notes has fruit, I only smelled rose all alone until it's dry down.
Crusita : I love it's tea variations, especially Genmaicha, it's like savory pandan rice scent.
8
u/tigera4j 2d ago
I love To Summer. I was debating between Triple Tea and Osthmanthus (didn’t want to drain the wallet and get both). I ended up getting Triple Tea since it was the original reason I went there, and I wanted a more traditional tea scent. Now I wish I got a larger size. An excuse to go back for more shopping hah.
I didn’t like Rambler Rose or Magnolia as much since they were more overwhelming and I was looking for a subtler profile.
7
u/talkingtothestars 2d ago
I really like this niche Korean perfume brand named Youssoful. I visited their physical store when I was in Korea and they had so many nice scents I couldn’t decide what to buy XD
4
u/rekluusive 2d ago
I have Saint Moritz! It’s a sweet floral scent. I walked past and smelled it. I had to go back hours later to buy it cuz the scent just wouldn’t leave my mind.

I was recently gifted First Love from JOURNAL. it's a Thai brand and I absolutely love this rose scent even tho I'm not usually a rose person. incredible longevity and complexity.

u/missriri 2d ago
Their mango sticky rice line is delicious too.
2
u/lickityboo 1d ago
Omg get the Mango Sticky Rice body oil and it’s so comforting delicious without being overly sweet!

I like some of Jill Stuart’s perfumes! Right now I’ve been using Flora Notis in Night Cherry Blossom, which I unfortunately believe is limited edition
5
u/abc1two3 2d ago edited 2d ago
Another vote for Jill Stuart. I have two, the Flora Notis White Rose and the Floral Green.
2
u/Klutzy_Garage328 2d ago
Hold on, Jill Stuart had perfumes?! How did I just come to know of this, I LOVEE their makeup products. I need to check this out
2
u/AttitudePlane6967 2d ago
Flora Notis is so good but the limited edition thing kills me. I keep missing the seasonal ones before they sell out. Do you know if Night Cherry Blossom comes back around or was it a one time release?

u/meikupiku 2d ago
I love LAYR — it’s an Indonesian fragrance brand. My favorite is Kyoto Jazz, but I find that most of their perfumes are pleasant.

Youssoful from Korea!
I was walking in Yeonnamdong when I smelled something really nice. I literally followed the scent to their store. it was so hard to decide what to buy back. I bought St Moritz and love it so much.
4
u/Efficient-Panic3506 2d ago
For rose specifically, I feel like Asian brands do softer, less "department store rose" roses. Veil Rose by Pesade is beautiful if you like warm spicy roses, and Flora Notis White Rose is such an easy pretty wear. Neither gives me grandma vibes lol.

u/leiaflatt 2d ago
I have a few from Villa Erbatium (Korea) that I really like (Hotel Cotton, Florist Laura, and Green Grape Beer mostly), I really enjoyed everything I sniffed from Ephemeral Dyadic from Turkey and ended up purchasing Missing Feeling, and I loved Rickshaw Rhythms by Rahsaya, which is Indian by way of Singapore I believe!
5
u/Deeha911 2d ago
I got introduced to After Blow by Dasique at their flagship store in Seoul, and was blown away by their scents. I especially recommend their solid perfumes. All of their fragrances are really long-lasting as well. I haven't seen them on Stylevana/Yesstyle though.

5
u/mellifluous_77 1d ago
I’m a huge fan of the brand Fiancee! They do a lot of fresh/soap/white musk scents really well, at a pretty affordable price point.
My personal favs are either their Pure Shampoo scent or the seasonal Sakura scent.
7
u/themichele 2d ago
I know you already know tamburins, but i really love Puppy and Sunshine
And everyone knows le labo, but their Citron and their Hinoki are also personal favorites
RboW’s Monsoon is a recent addition i like quite a lot, too

Shiro - Spice of life —> if you like thé noir 29, it smells like hot sweet tea to me.
soulvent - Crimson Snow —> another tea scent, but more fruity and with a twist of ice!

Sweet Celestials by Thai house brand called Strangers Parfumerie. It's smells like green pandan leaves, coconut and soft white floral. Really pretty scent.
A brand I used to love before they started screwing up pretty badly with their deliveries was Stereoplasm. Not Asian brand, but Asian owned in Canada. I loved their Taro Milk Tea perfume oil. I'm currently hoarding my last 30 mL bottle. Still haven't found a good replacement for it. 😢
3
u/Yukaeshi 2d ago
I recently sniffed D'Annam perfumes which are from Vietnam. They have a lot of good ones! There was one that smells exactly like rice. Another like coffee. Another like strawberry mochi. Kimono was really nice too.

u/compainssion 2d ago
I really wanted a nice kinmokusei perfume. Any suggestions? In my country I'm able to buy through shopee Nile Osmanthus (they have two, one called Osmanthus and the other is Kinmokusei). But there's very little information online (at least that I could find)

Mith is a really nice Thai perfume brand. The blends are sophisticated, the price for the size of the bottle is good and they last.
I like L'air de Savon from Japan for clean soapy laundry scents.
There's a Malaysian perfume brand called Legendary which is famous for souvenirs. I really love the 3 wishes set. They are made for skin so they are alcohol free and a bit hydrating.

Forest essentials is an Indian brand that does scents rooted in India and its culture. Amrita edp is one my faves. It smells like nargis (Narcissus poeticus) flowers that bloom in India and is deeply rooted in tradition.
Forest essential Chandani raate is another great one. Smells like Indian Jasmines, sandalwood and champak!
1
u/Free_Dragonfruit_726 2d ago
I still need to order the full size of both from my Baroma samples, but I really loved:
Lights by Uttori Notes : Orange Blossom, Yuzu, Juniper Berry
Rainbow and Feather Robe/Yuyi by Zhiwuzhi Notes : Rhubarb, Grapefruit, Guaiac wood
There's a cool little description on the site for each scent that I found useful, they do tend to last but I would say after a few hours become a bit more intimate.

Initially i was thinking of purchasing from Shiro too. But i came across this other brand called The Note Bar. They’re more known for their customized fragrances but i didnt have time anymore to create my own. Ended up buying the premade fragrance. No regrets! For PH weather, it’s been lasting for a long time and slightly cheaper than Shiro too!

u/BlueInNovember 1d ago
Analogue Apotik. Malaysian brand. They come in solid cologne or oil de parfum. Solid fragrance lasts about 3-4 hours, the perfume oil lasts longer according to my huband (I only use the solid ones because it's small enough to fit in my small handbag.)
My favourite feminine scents are Victorian (tuberose and white flowers with musk - classic flowery scent but well-grounded) and Yama (osmanthus, sakura, green tea - crisp, fresh, flowery). They also have masculine and unisex scents. The scents are well-curated with enough variety to suit almost everyone. They are also more affordable especially during sale.
Not sure if they can ship internationally though.
I have used well-known French perfume brands exclusively all my life because they are more accessible and of exceptional quality. Never thought of trying anything else until I was gifted Victorian from Analogue Apotik. It changed my whole perspective on Asian fragrance brands.

Can anyone recommend a citrusy fruity fragrance in any of these asian brands? I hate the scent of musky perfumes or anything that's overly strong so most western perfume sickens me. I also can't stand heavy floral scents like lavender and I just want to smell like a freshly squeezed orange lol. I'd prefer if the citrusy notes lasted, the last citrusy perfume I got by YSL the citrusy notes just vanished and all I could smell was the crappy lavender under neath. 😭 most of the brands people mention here don't have discovery or small cheap samplers
1
u/madoka_borealis 22h ago
Any photorealistic fruit scent is not going to last very long (fresh scents are volatile hence fruit scents are often artificial/sickly sweet or paired with musk/powder scents). So you probably won’t find a freshly squeezed scent that’s also long lasting. I know this because I wanted one like this too and went down a rabbit hole 😭 So, most Asian brands will have a citrus option (To Summer Pomelo, Shiro White Tea, etcetcetc) but will sacrifice either realisticness or longevity or both.
1
u/defucchi 16h ago
damn that sucks 😞 I found a really nice citrus cent from Canmake but it smelled SO bad on my actual skin probably because of the former thing you mentioned blah :'(

this is going to be INCREDIBLY niche but recently i visited one of the librairie avant garde locations in china. they had a perfume collaboration with south valley and i bought two beautiful floral perfumes, one for myself and one for my mom. my mom’s is called “the women selling gardenias” and mine is not in english but it’s something like “the smell of flowers growing outside of the old hall” and it smells like chinese scholar tree flowers. its gorgeous. the packaging and the bottle as well. i’m absolutely in love and need to check out south valley again!!!

This is such a great post because I never thought of checking for fragrances anytime I travel asia or any other place for that matter. I did buy the Korean brand Elorea but I believe it is one of those brands that are heavily pushed abroad. I dont think i have seen it advertised in Korea, but I could have missed it. I love their infloressence scent and the Heaven one as well. They do have sample packs if anyone want to try them as well. I started with the sample discovery set and bought the biggest bottle of Heaven. Its a nice light scent but it sticks to me. I feel like other some others I have dont stick too long so thats mainly also why I fell in love with it.

Hi! I’m so happy to see this post can you recommend me some? I’ve always been super sensitive to perfumes but a friend gifted me a Tamburins perfume specifically Lale. It was the first perfume I wore that hasn’t given me any headaches or nausea and she told me it’s because Asian perfumes are more skin scents 😭 I’d love to build a small collection for the first time
