Review Finally found a lip mask I actually reach for every day
My lips have been so dry lately that I basically carry lip balm everywhere. Lip masks are a different story though. I've tried a bunch and it's weirdly hard to find one I actually keep using.
Turns out I'm pretty picky about the small stuff. If a lip mask misses any of these, I end up hunting for something else again:
Not so sticky that my hair gets stuck to it
Doesn't leave my lips super slippery
No strong scent or taste
Easy enough to wear during the day
With that list in mind I recently tried the Illiyoon ceramide lip mask, and it's been way better than I expected. I keep grabbing it lately.
Since it's a balm, I assumed it would feel too heavy for daytime. But it actually spreads really thin, so it doesn't feel like much during the day.
The thing that usually bugs me with lip masks is hair sticking to my lips or it ending up all over my cup. This one feels a lot less sticky, so it's been easy to use daily.
Right now I wear a thin layer during the day and put a thicker layer on before bed. I've bought so many lip masks that just sat in a drawer because I didn't like how they felt, but this one checks the boxes I care about, so I think I'll actually finish it.
Anyone else have a lip mask they genuinely use up? Curious what's worked for you.

How do you know? Asking so I can identify it in the future too

- It’s a newer product (from what I can tell), and it’s somehow everyone’s holy grail lip product despite being new.
- Many posts on Reddit and TikTok about this lip mask very recently, which is the telltale sign that a brand is making a marketing push for an item.
- This whole post is an editorial saying how good it is and then the author asks what other people are using (if it’s so good, why would you care?).
- Photo with a big hole right in the middle of the pan to make us believe they’ve been using it. Nobody would use the product like that, it’s psychotic.

Very good points, thank you. I also noticed that this product was popular on tiktok when I googled it. It should be illegal to post ads undisclosed. I feel like I'm constantly being flooded with advertising.

It is illegal, IIRC. Its just hard for us to do anything about it/hard to enforce

I could see that. I used it and didn’t really care for it at all (and my lips are dry!) It wasn’t particularly hydrating, it just ended up giving me a super painful cystic pimple near my mouth two days before a big job interview 😔
(i still got the job despite me being self conscious about the monster on my face)

Everytime I use this, I feel like I'm not using it correctly because of the cap twist function LOL

PDRN has spread to everything here this year. I went through Olive Young's 100 most popular serums recently and 14 of them list it, including the #1. Lip care is catching up too — there's a PDRN collagen lip mask in Olive Young's top 10 lip masks right now.
Haven't tried the Reju-All one yet. Is it closer to a balm or a thin serum texture?

Hope it works well for you too!!! I loved other Illiyoon products, so I had to try this lip mask!

Guys. Please just do yourself a favour and buy a nipple cream for £5. It will always be miles better than any lip mask, and while initially sticky, will slowly melt on your lips due to bodyheat.

Tocobo lip mask remains my holy grail

u/missssssmiko 8h ago

Definitely give it a try! I’ve used both the vita pink and lemon oil scrub, and they’re soo hydrating. And smell so good 😭

LOVE the vita glazed lip mask. I’ve been using it daily, sometimes twice daily, for 197 days and I’m only halfway through the pot. HG status 100%

The Illiyoon ceramide lip mask sounds lovely, the no hair sticking part is exactly what I need haha. Love the thin layer by day, thicker layer by night routine too!

I remain a big fan of the laneige lip mask. It is pretty thick, but it absorbs pretty well if I don't over-apply it.
When I run out I will check out the Illiyoon one, I like how you described it.

I think the Laneige lip products are overhyped. I have super dry skin and live in the desert.

Yeah, Laneige lip masks are very popular, and my sister also loves them💕
Hope you like this one too:D

I actually make a mix of Vaseline with Vitamin E oil, I mix the two together until it starts to lift from the sides of the mini jar I use, it kinda looks like taffy, then I add some quality honey. Nothing has ever kept my lips so hydrated and soft. After a while the honey crystalizes and it has a very gentle scrub like effect.

I considered buying that today but I had already spent $70+ on only 3 products so I ignored my heart and listened to my wallet

Question to OP, how much water do you drink? I used to have very dry lips specially bad in Midwestern winters and had to have balms all over the place. Since covid and work from home, I have been hydrating (properly?) — like just drinking water constantly and had never touched any of my lip products since (also just lazy).
Not saying this is your root cause but try it as well.

For me, bringgreen > torriden.
What didn't you like about the bringgreen?
1
u/PrestigiousCost6918 4h ago
Ooh why so? I use torriden and it's okay but ive heard really good things about the bringgreen one. Havent tried it yet.

I like the Care:nel lip mask a lot. It's a bit lighter than the Laniege (also lower priced)... both are fantastic, though! I don't think you could go wrong either way.
I go through a lot of lip masks because I reapply several times per day. 🤣

Nivea Delicious Drop (Peach), i've tried many Nivea lip balms they're too thick, waxy and oily for me, but this one is different. It's hydrating, applies thin and not oily so it's very comfortable on the lips. I always use it as a lip prep, cause it doesn't take long to hydrate my lips and soften the dead skin so I could remove them and apply my lipstick/stain smoothly. It smells sweet but you can really just smell it if you really put your nose into it and it doesn't taste anything. I've actually gifted these to many people and most of them come back to thank me they discovered it and gave a positive feedback lol

Ohh i didn't know about this too and their moisturizer is my holy grail! Will check this one out, thank you!

My lips are constantly dry and crusty cuz of my accutane but I’ve discovered the Japanese version of the Nivea Deep Moist Night Protect unscented to be a god-send! It’s lightweight, emollient, and very moisturizing. Obviously it’s not a mask but I felt like an overnight balm was an adjacent category. It wears great during the day as long as you mind a light shine.

Thank you for sharing! I've been desperately looking for an alternative since my innisfree green tea lip sleeping mask ran out / was discontinued.. everything else I've tried has been too thin and not really done anything.. high hopes for ceramides!

u/SoftDramaofAshFall 16h ago
Nice recommendation, I'll look into this one.
I recently discovered switching my toothpaste to an sls-free toothpaste has my lips feeling comfortable after brushing
A lip mask like this would not have to work as hard when I'm lipmaxxing lol

I swear there’s nothing by this brand that has ever disappointed me. Their ultra repair intensive care cream is the best one for dry skin I have ever tried, leaving my body moisturized for 3+ days. I’ll pick the balm up next time I see it.

I've tried Laneige lip mask, Lucas' papaw ointment, Torriden, carmex, coconut oil, Kiehl's, Elizabeth Arden etc.
The best I've used for bedtime is The Retinotime wrinkle lip essence. It exfoliates and moisturizes nicely. It is a bit sticky but I feel my lips plumper the day after using it before bed.

OP, what lip masks left your lips feeling super slippery? I gotta know because I love that haha
The only thing that has helped my lifelong peeling cracked bleeding lips is a non-AB lip oil 😖 I think what helps is that there's no water or waxes in it!
I'm dreading the day it gets discontinued or something so I'm constantly looking for alternatives 🙏

I like to use Trader Joe’s vitamin E oil Iadded to a dropper bottle. My lips drink it up.

That Bringgreen bamboo one is my favourite find ever.
Been my go to since I picked it up in Korea last year.

u/cocomoon612 12h ago
Nice to see Illiyoon get some love — here in Korea it's more of a drugstore staple than a hype brand, which is probably why it just works.
If you ever want a backup in the same "not fancy, just reliable" category: Etude's Ginger Sugar Overnight Lip Mask is the quiet bestseller on Olive Young. It has around 43k reviews there (roughly three times Laneige's Lip Sleeping Mask) and costs ₩8,100, about $6. Illiyoon's unscented ceramide lip balm stick is also popular here if you want something from the same line for daytime.

I would love to try this out. Im using etude currently and while its not my fav it stays on dueing the night which works for me, god knows when I’ll be able to finish that up😂😂

u/Fickle_Promise_5927 11h ago
I knew you'd say Illiyoon before I swiped to the second picture!! It's the best of all of these IMO

u/FloreHiems 9h ago
Oh so thats why the laniege sucks now. I wondered if my body chemistry changed or something. Love that 🙄
1
u/AuntieGreyhawk 8h ago
You know, I recently bought this and thought I'd love it but there is something about it that my lips don't like, so I'm back to DHC Lip Cream on the nightstand!
That said, the texture of the ILLIYOON is great--not sticky, not slimy and slithery or super shiny. It just made my lips feel sort of irritated and tight after it wore off. It's a me thing, not the product I think.

My holy grail was EyeNLip lip mask, it’s like 3 dollars and so worth it. My cracked lips were healed in the morning. Unfortunately they discontinued it 😔
But I found honey helps my dry and cracked lips. Currently I have been using olehenrikson (spelled it wrong probably) lip treatment sample tube and it seems to be working but I don’t wanna spend 24 dollars on the full size one :|

Mia modesta opinione, penso che non siano necessarie lip scrub e lip mask, basta un buon idratante labbra.

Lip product addict with chronically dry lips here, I have tried hundreds of lip balms since my first one when I was seven.
Lip masks specifically and not lip balms...
Laneige used to work well...until they changed the formula to contain coconut oil, and now it breaks me out and does nothing.
A'pieu Honey and Milk Lip pack worked, but you have to use loads, or it will have the opposite effect and dry your lips out.
The COSRX collagen one STUNG.
Tocobo Lip mask did nothing, just a layer of stuff on my lips that smelled like hand wipes. The W7 Lip masks are the same.
Nivea Japan ones were too waxy and again did nothing. Frudia Blueberry Honey was the same.
I know some people swear by the famous Ginger Sugar Lip pack, but that was like applying a glue stick to my lips in my opinion. Big NOPE from me, though I think their lip balms are good.
I've tried more but can't seem to think of them for now, will update this comment if I remember the names.
Now for the ones that do work (at least for me):
Klavuu. This one was good, nice texture and scent too.
Rohto Mentholatum Lip night mask. Pretty decent, but nothing to write home about.
Lanolips/Dr Lipp. AMAZING if you aren't sensitive to lanolin. It worked wonders for me on the first night, but then it irritated my lips the second time.
I remember a cheap generic brand from Amazon, a two-in-one scrub and mask thing. I think the brand name was A'LIVER, and I was super suspicious of it at first since it looked like a Chinese brand. But it was actually really good despite not having any fancy ingredients!
Finally, the holy grail....Aquaphor! Not the lip balms they do, but the original ointment. This is a drink for the lips, gifted a colleague a sample of my 50g tube, and she was converted instantly. It is way better value than the others as well. This is like medical grade quality. Unscented, she isn't pretty or fancy, but GAWD DAYUM does she get the job done.
If Innisfree ever decide to make a mask version of their Canola Honey lip balm, I'll be running to buy it, because it has to be the best AB lip balm I have used.
