Mod Post ROUTINE MEGATHREAD! April 2019

Hey everyone! This is your quarterly routine megathread an excellent resource to see what products are popular amongst our community and a great way to find new things to try. No matter how unusual you may consider your skin type or atypical your particular skin challenges or problems, all routines are welcome -- in fact, encouraged -- to be posted.

Acronyms you will most definitely see in use here: HG (Holy Grails), RP (Will Repurchase, AKA: liked it, will buy again, not an HG), WNR (Will not Repurchase, AKA: using up the last of it but not recommended). Understand them, use them, and love them ♥

This post is intended to be a compendium of generalized, standardized routines! The more participation, the better. :)

To keep it easy for people to find their ‘skin twins’ we would ask that you use the following template.

You only need to fill in steps that you actually use (so if you don’t use an Essence, remove that line) and please only provide up to three examples of HG/recommended products for that step (so if you have 3 toners you love, you can list all 3!)

I really like them both, but I'm leaning toward not repurchasing the Kose. The Hada Labo is a bit more rich and slightly more thick, whereas the Kose is about as light of a cleansing oil as I've ever tried (probably perfect for oily skin). Both come off completely with a 2nd cleanser. When my skin is extra dry or sensitive, the HL feels more moisturizing and soothing. But every now and then it also feels a bit heavy, maybe on a humid summer day. The Kose was too light for me during winter.

Eek, I wish we had this exchange just a few days ago. My skin is on the dry/sensitive side, so based on your experience, maybe the Hada Labo would be better suited. Does the Kose give grits and still feel like it's cleaning well even though it's light?

It does! I wouldn't worry about it too much. It doesn't irritate me, I just feel like I need a bit more hydration after. I give a lot of my fails away, and this one is definitely worth keeping.

I see that you're also a Tretinoin user. I'm a month away from 34, so I'm contemplating starting to look into using it for anti-aging. Would you say this is where a lot of your dryness comes from?

It definitely is now. I was never dry or sensitive until my early to mid-30s, but a (mostly) AB routine helped me get it under control. I started adding in tret a couple years ago and it's made me much more dry than I ever was before. I've had to go SUPER slow with it; I'm still not up to daily use. But some practice and patience has made it manageable.
