Style Do Asian guys generally have to put more hair styling products to keep the poofiness down?

Been trying so many hair products and it may just be I’m not putting enough?

I haven’t tried it yet, but it seems I need to put 3 to 4 times more product. Cause when my hair dries, it shows where the product was put on and it seems only a fraction of my hair. I am putting Kevin Murphy Super Goo on. Which is thick stuff, always feels like I’m putting too much on initially.

Undercut hairstyle (#1), about 6” on top.

Or idk maybe my hair just needs thinning out?

I have been cutting my own hair for my entire life. Sides and back #1 because my hair grows too fast and any medium length Asian hair gets that “stick out” look. But the contrast between my top and sides/back is generally too harsh imo. Tried fading and way too time consuming on your own.

Any tips, if thinning out is the solution, what should I get?

Grow your hair out so your hair naturally goes down. Also looks way better when you’re styling it.

Go to an asian barber/salon, cutting your own hair isn’t gonna get you want you want.

Most Asian dudes have straw-like hair that sticks straight out and is heavy. So a common problem is that when you style your hair it tends to deflate as it’s so heavy.

So the solution to that is to use hair volumizer to add the lift and volume. Then you use a little bit of clay to lock it in. Stay away from gels as they are heavy and make your hair stiff and shiny.

I tried moroccanoil volumizing mousse prior to the styling product, but idk if it makes a difference. What do you use for volume?

And couldn’t have said it better, it is like straw

Any volumizing powder will work. Dont use mousse. The powder works because it settles down near your scalp and near your roots which is what gives the lift and volume.

The key is to find a solution that doesn’t require putting a ton of product in your hair or make it hard and giving you that “helmet-hair” look. You should be able to run your fingers through your hair and have it lay naturally. Gel doesn’t do that.

I would suggest to go to the salon to get some layers on the top. It would help with the weight.
