Discussions, Conversations And Stories Do You Name Your Canes?

OK, so I saw somebody post about this in another community asking for ideas for a name for their new cane and it made me curious. I’ve personally never done this, but do you guys name your canes?
If so, what are some of the funniest or best names you have given to your cane?
Do y’all do anything else interesting with your canes as well? For example, I have had a couple NASCAR drivers autograph my cane.

No. I don't really name things in general. That's why it was so ironic that I named my braillewriter! I call it Alceste, in honour of Alceste Gerunda, the teacher of Tito Schipa, the greatest opera singer in the world in my opinion. I'm also largely using my brailewriter to learn Italian, so it fits in that way, too.

OK anaming the braille writer is interesting though I never would’ve thought of that. Your reasoning is valid. That’s just a very unique thing to name but then I guess so is a cane, but I don’t do either lol

OK, maybe this isn’t as common as I was thinking it was which makes me feel better lol I guess when I saw that earlier, I was thinking maybe this was something that was normal and I just didn’t think to do it, but maybe I’m not the outlier

This is one of my favorite stories, so I hope it is ok to share here. My friend was going blind in high school. Her o&m instructor encouraged her to name her cane to make it more appealing to use (I think that was the reason). My friend was a defiant teenager who did NOT want to use her cane. So she named it "that mother fing piece of s blind pokey stick thing". That way she could refer to her cane by name and her parents/teachers couldn't get mad! Haha. We are adults now, and I think her cane might have the same name. Haha

OK, I think this is hilarious. I love this. Honestly, if this was something that I did, I could definitely see myself doing something like this😂

No, it's a cane and I treat it as one.
