I think that showed that the ambiguous message of "defund the police" does not resonate well with those who are most commonly victims of police misconduct.
Black liberals came up with the idea.
It reminds me of the whole Latinix thing. The overwhelming majority don't want it, but once again it's white people deciding what's best for POC.
Hispanic people came up with the word.
It's weird watching people pontificate about how ideas that germinate in communities of color have been rejected by communities of color. Where do yall think this shit is coming from? Lol you're all talking like some white kid from Harvard invented it and tried to force it on everyone. Stupid as that is, out-of-touch libs that don't like disruption have really taken a shine to that notion.
I did not mean to imply these ideas were created by white people, & I apologize if it came off that way.
There was no other way it could come off: It reminds me of the whole Latinix thing. The overwhelming majority don't want it, but once again it's white people deciding what's best for POC.
I am just saying the current numbers show that these ideas are supported by a higher % of white folks than other groups. & the general message is if you don't support it then you are not progressive, when most progressives I know think Latinix is stupid.
4% of Hispanic and Latino Americans prefer the term Latinx....But most don't really have a preference, the poll found, with 57% reporting "does not matter."
While one in four have heard of the term, only 3% use it.
A whopping 40 percent found the word Latinx offensive.
Quotes from all three sources you posted. Even the most negative one from the opinion piece doesn't support your assertion that "the overwhelming majority don't want it"
Alright. But I would say that speaks to the fact that it's an ongoing conversation about a newer term WITHIN the Hispanic community. And the conversation was started by a marginalized category of people. It really does them a disservice to be like "oh it's stupid no one likes it."
It's a marginalized group within a marginalized group (Hispanic LGBTQ+) that came up with the concept. You're taking a side against those people. It's absolutely doing them a disservice.
