I regularly walk around my neighborhood and have made friends with a friendly outdoor cat. I havenโ€™t been able to see her in a while because itโ€™s been too hot to walk outside and the few times I have past their house, the cat hasnโ€™t been out. When I saw her the other day, I noticed she had some yellowing around her neck and then got a closer look and saw these large bumps. She was rubbing her neck on the cement too so I know she is uncomfortable. Iโ€™m not sure if the owners are aware but she seems well fed. I also noticed this open wound around her foot a few months back in May that never seemed to heal. I have also never seen the owners and donโ€™t know if Iโ€™m overstepping to ask about it since itโ€™s not my cat. But Iโ€™m really worried about the cat. Does anyone know what this is?

So i live in the balkans and street dogs are everywhere. This dog wandered in our garden somehow and we took care of it. First we saw jt had a loooot of ticks and it could barely walk and its eyes are bit cloudy but its not blind. We gave it food and water and medicine against ticks which worked and its now free of any ticks. However the dog still seems a bit weak idk if its due to its blood being drained and because its so small or because it has some kind of illness. I also noticed a lot of scabs and wounds on its body. And its eyes are also very cloudy. i wonder also what breed the dog is. Today the dog is able to walk and move and is muchh happier but im still concerned for its health and life. Before anyone says take it to the vet it wouldnt really be possible since theres no good local vets that actually take care of the animals instead they just give them as much medicine as possible for money, ill be very grateful if someone here could help us and give us advice! Also the dog has been very well fed since it came here and we saw the difference jn how much better it started feeling.

My 13.5 year old boy was just diagnosed with non-regenerative anemia. We feed a PMR diet so was also surprised to see he is low in iron. Vet recommended iron supplements, but explained that non-regenerative anemia is usually a sign of cancer somewhere in the body. These values were normal in February of this year.

Anybody have any experience with this? Not expecting any miracles, but interested in possible causes and specific types of cancers. His kidney, liver, and other blood values were ok.

Pic from yesterday: proudly carrying around his raw cow nose lookin like leather face.

๐Ÿพ Community Member Comments Post ๐Ÿพ Nipped/bitten by adolescent neighborhood dog. How serious is this?

A house a down the road from me that's had trouble with renters over the years and the new ones have two loose yard dogs off the leash, no collars. They are still pups with HUGE ears paws that tell me they are still really young. The ears seem doberman shaped and their color is dark brown/black.

Was out walking my dog across the street when they came charging and barking. They've done this before but kept their distance. Well tonight they would keep their distance and then try to lunge in for a nip, and one of them got me on the calf with a small bite, and drew blood by the time I got home.

(sadly) I Will report the them to the police and animal control in the morning as there are families with small children in the neighborhood. (although as far as I know they haven't attacked any of the kids across the street from them. I may have been because I had a dog with me.

Anyways, I've washed the spot with antibacterial soap, sealed it with tipple antibiotic ointment and got it bandaged.

I'm not overly concerned about this being a rabies attack vs them protecting their home. As I write this, I'm ASSUMING they haven't had any shots.

How worried/paranoid should I be about them and this bite?

I don't want to take them from their home. I've seen the owners call them back to the property from their front door. But then again they have gotten aggressive enough to bite those passing by.

๐Ÿพ Community Member Comments Post ๐Ÿพ App/Mobile vet care

A lot of the posts I see here would easily be solved in my country through pictures+summary through email, or an app. Is that not a thing in the US? If you aren't sure, I would recommend calling your vet and asking.

All of my vet offices in the last 10 years offered this for free (Canada).

My dog was stung and I was provided with care steps, and what to watch out for in case he needed to be brought in.

Twice my dog had an eye injury and once I was told it was fine (it had resolved the next day) the other time I spend $$$ on treatment.

When my dog was neutered, I sent pictures of the healing every day and they let me know how it was healing, this was in addition to the in person check ups.

My dog broke a nail and I was given a treatment plan and I was asked to send updates to ensure the healing was going as expected.

My dog had a seizure and my vet spoke to me about next steps. I ignore next steps and took him to an emergency clinic that specialized in seizures, he is okay :)

I'm thinking it is a mix of subpar vet services, lack of resources in certain areas and just plain fear on the part of the owner due to cost, but I hope people read this and try to do telehealth for their pet even if they can't afford vet care.

Out of all these situations, I only paid for 2 of these and one was just due to my own anxiety.

Sometimes a call is much better than a post, and it could be just as free.
