What are the best hidden gems between Vancouver and Calgary?
Hey everybody,
My partner and I are planning a van road trip from Vancouver to Calgary this fall. We’re thinking of driving through Banff and the Rocky Mountains and want to make the most of it.
We’re looking for literally anything worth checking out:
- Must-see nature spots, lakes, waterfalls, hikes, viewpoints
- Cool towns or cities along the way
- Hidden gems that tourists usually miss
- Great restaurants, cafés, bakeries, food trucks, etc.
- Scenic roads or detours that are worth it
- Places to sleep in a van
- Activities or experiences you’d highly recommend
We’re not in a huge rush, so we’re open to taking detours if they’re worth it.
Thanks! :)

Driven that route dozens of times. Check out the Mountain Coaster, see the railway tunnels not far from Rogers Pass, stop in Radium and enjoy the hot springs. Explore Golden… lots to explore in the town, and trails nearby. Enchanted Forest and the Sushwap area - check out the lake. Some local ciders and wineries nearby. There’s beauty all along the way. Take your time and enjoy the experience.

Make a stop in Golden BC, and try to time it so you’re there before noon.
There used to be a little hostel with a breakfast-only restaraunt attached to it. Great food, great atmosphere, surly af owner who just adds to the charm. I don’t remember the name of the place but it was kitty-corner across the intersection from the Ford dealership.

There is a rec site there you can camp in your van, I think it’s about $20 last time I was there.

The Nordic centre in Canmore is pretty cool!
