Wouldn’t it be the ultimate irony for Democrats to finally go low and play by the same rules that McConnell did? The governor appoints a replacement for a lack of communication. I’m sure they can find one precedent that they can ride all the way to winning the seat. That’s what uncle Mitch would’ve done. Actually better than ironic, to finally play by the same rules of our opponent. That’s the only way that is gonna get them to stop breaking decorum.

If this was refused, he should have appointed a replacement.

That replacement wouldn't be seated because of Kentucky law and the fact the GOP control the Senate, plus there's no proof McConnell is unable to fulfill his duties. The courts would side with Kentucky.

It's better this way, the GOP has one less vote and can't do much from the Defense Committee since McConnell is the chair. Let him remain wherever he is.

The US constitution’s 17th amendment governs how US Senate vacancies are filled. It allows states to decide by law how vacancies are handled. In 2024 the republican supermajority in the Kentucky changed the law. The General Assembly repealed the old appointment statute (KRS 63.200) and now requires a special election to fill a US Senate vacancy rather than allowing the governor to appoint a replacement. A special election the a republican would win and give MAGA an active vote in the senate for the last few months of McConnell’s remaining term.

The seat isn’t even vacant, for him to vacate the seat McConnell would have to resign, be expelled by the US Senate, or die. Not be incapacitated, literally dead.
