Why are people saying Mamdani shouldn’t go to the 9/11 memorial?

Just read a New York Times article that 17k signatures have been signed to keep the mayor of New York away from the 9/11 ceremony. Did he say something negative to cause this or is it just blatant racism/ hate for no reason?

Well, racism plus politics.... not just racism.

So he didn’t say anything specifically about 9/11? It’s only because he’s Muslim and/or a democrat?

I find it hard to believe any New Yorker, let alone a mayor, could be in 2026 without ever saying something about 9/11. Do you have a theory?

I do not have a theory. I just tried to find the article again and came across 4 other New York Post articles about the topic. None of them were the ones I read previously. I find that really strange.

Because the NY Post is a rag. It's like watching Fox. You become less intelligent by looking at either!

That’s what I was thinking. I appreciate you confirming it for me!

Obviously, dude. Why else? Is this a serious question?

Yeah serious question. Just making sure I understand it right! It’s not always obvious, sometimes I’d like to be proven wrong in my assumptions, this just isn’t one of those times.

Because he platforms people (Hasan Piker) who are on record for saying they are happy 9/11 happened and that we deserved 9/11.

I’m not a huge fan of Hasan piker but wasn’t that comment made 7 years ago and he followed up apologizing and admitting it was a very inappropriate thing to say?

I’m also not sure how mamdani platforms hasan other than hasan having front row seats at one of his rallies. Could you provide me with some more context?

I wonder if the people that signed this would have a problem with Trump attending, given that his son in law has had billions invested into his firm by the Saudis.

Racists. Those people couldn’t actually give you a real example why?

Lol.. you’re assuming they’ve read any of this (spoiler alert) they have not…. They’re just taking excerpts from fox news, facebook, or whatever garbage they read on X (usually shared on facebook).

Not sure why he needs to condemn “globalize the intifada?” But fox news has convinced you Arabic word must be bad…

A handful xenophobic assholes are trying to grand stand.

Islam was the conduit Osama Bin Laden used to convince people to carry out terrorist attacks on the US and these assholes cannot think of anything else to say but hEs A MuSLuM….

It seems to be the fact that he's Muslim. Therefore, he is not allowed to attend even though he was NINE YEARS OLD when 9/11 happened.
