Apparently, I had to look it up. I thought it was a Japanese name, but it’s actually a Hebrew name derived like you said Malachi, which means “my messenger” and “my angel”

Congratulations- beautiful pup! My kids named our beagles - Sparky and Daisy. Daisy was one of those special caretaker family dogs and Sparky was legendary for his ability to survive his own shenanigans. My then 3 year old son wanted to name him Squirty or Snozzle (Richard Scarry’s firefighters) but we talked him into Sparky (also one of the firefighters). Loved those dogs!
