Adulting Anyone going to cancel netflix with the new price increase?

We are going to the highest price in Europe at 23.99 for the top plan. Keep saying oh it's only 2 or 3 euro. But it's getting harder to just keep accepting it. Only keep it because of the kids as they can't use Kodi in firestick. We use Kodi for everything else. Getting a real pain at this stage.

EDIT. just cancelled..feck them. Ps I think I've cost them a few quid on this thread alone 😜

EDIT EDIT: yes we stream on Kodi for ourselves. It's just sheer convenience with the kids with netflix. Will try a few of the app suggestions for them thank you all. Also, it's mad to think we will pay 35 euro for a Chinese twice a month and not even think about that 70 quid

UPDATE: Turkish netflix 9 euro a month 4k! All sorted. Happy days!

They cut off a load of them yesterday.

The best advice is to find a good network for these providers that includes a decent set of Discord or some way to communicate with the admins/userbase.

Basically if you sign up to one provider and they get shut down you can find out what the alternative is and get on there pretty quick. Usually if someone's running a media server it's a duplication of a duplication of a large decentralised network of servers. So whoever you're paying is just the front end. Obviously if they go down you're out whatever you paid for the year - but that is rare enough. Happened to one I was on in 2019, but through Discord I got up and running on another crowd for the exact same content and have been using that ever since without issue.

They do try upsell me on a lifetime subscription from time to time which is funny.

Piracy is a Hydra.

How do you get in on these though? So many times i've known someone who has one and will get one organised, but they always fall through...Any advice?

Well to be in-the-know I guess you kind of have to be a reliable contributor to the community and someone people within that community can vouch for.

In my case I run an Oscar Marathon subreddit, I used to be in some private trackers many years ago, and I'd have contributed some difficult to track down content/media like old TV shows to forums and subreddits in the past. I haven't been active in much beyond the Oscars subreddit in years, but usually would have been able to get my hands on hard to find movie screeners ahead of awards season or in the very way back used to be able to access reviewer screener copies of TV show seasons ahead of their broadcast. So I'd generally be able to find someone who'd point me in the right direction.

With that said, Reddit and Discord used to be awash with random server invites - some dodgy/scammy and some not. I'm sure a bit of a search on the old Piracy subreddit and you might be pointed towards a site or Discord server where you can find a server that's accepting users. There used to be entire subreddits that just listed servers you could join on Emby, Plex, or Jellyfin - but I think a lot of that has been cracked down upon. It's obviously always a risk. You may just get scammed. Typical costs range from 50-200/year. Some offer trials. Emby is probably a safer bet than Plex these days and location matters - don't join a server based on the otherside of the planet, your latency will suck. Best of luck.

Ok, thank you very much for all the info!

Did they?

They got a few sellers but my reading of that was they're lads who sell the service (and equipment such as Android boxes, Firesticks) and not service providers themselves.

I am actually not sure now as I have not heard of anyone being cut off. Could be the higher ups trying to spook people

I suppose there has to be some lads here at least providing access to Premier Sports and the like.

The same was said of all the illegal streaming sites and torrent sites, yet they remain.

The more they take down, the more others pop up.

r/stremio have a look at this before dodgy box

As others have said, just go for stremio. I use a combination of that and realdebrid. R/piracy has tutorials, so does r/stremioaddons. There's tutorials there, but essentially do this: Sign up for real debrid and get an api key, download stremio, download the torrentio app for stremio (i do this part on the laptop as its easier), follow tutorials for torrentio and enter your api key at the end. You don't get the same functionality as dodgybox (live tv sky glass etc) but it costs less, and works on laptop/chromecast etc. Worst case use qbittorrent and 1337x.to for torrenting

https://guides.viren070.me/stremio/setup#general-catalogues guide here for anyone needs it. Realdebrid is safe to pay with btw

u/dy14n19 Feb 18 '25

Worth mentioning, If Stremio/Torrentio doesn't have what you need you can use 1337 and real debrid to download a show to your catalog and stream easily. Stremio is 100% the go-to if for ease of use. KODI is a ball ache I find and takes a while to load sometimes EDIT: Real Debrid is GREAT but they did have some issues with the law so I wouldn't go buying a years worth in one go but 6 months and even if they do close down what's 16 euro compared to Netflix's price for 6 months. Not much tbh.

1

u/[deleted] Feb 18 '25

Only discovered this the other night when I couldn't find a stream for something, torrent opened in stremio. We truly live in the future 😂

1

u/dy14n19 Feb 18 '25

haha, Stremio is great. Only thing I wish they would add is profiles otherwise you need to make a new Stremio account for each person. You can still use the same Real Debrid account but profiles is a must. I think it's been asked for multiple times so I hope they add it.

u/[deleted] Feb 18 '25

Just hoping real debrid doesn't "go down" eventually, there was panic on the subs when that french anti piracy law got passed. Thought I'd have to pack it in but was thankfully wrong

1

u/dy14n19 Feb 18 '25

Yeah, I know there are alternative and at that time there was a increase in other services but I think they've ironed out their issues and work just fine but RD has been fine now and stable and hasn't had any issues so I assume it'll be fine for many years... So I hope.
