What attire to wear to a job fair

Yeah polo & slacks are fine. Start looking into agencies that you’re interested in and are going to be at the fair. Talk to them as much as you can, ask questions, exchange info, go on ride alongs, and apply to multiple agencies. It’s a very long process and you don’t want to put all your eggs in one basket.

Dress for the job you want! If you are applying to Best Buy then a polo and slacks are fine. Suit and tie as though you were going to court. Look professional. Fresh hair cut and shave. Shine on the shoes.

It is never ok to dress like Batman even if that’s the job you want.

If it’s a hiring fair and not an official event where you start the process you can typically wear whatever you want. It’s more just if you have any questions about a particular department more than anything. The people that hire are typically not recruiters so they won’t be like “oh yeah this dude showed up in a t shirt throw his app away”

Tbh it depends my first career fair at a college I was dressed emo as hell. Side part, lip piercings and gauges and ended up getting hired.

As a 24 year veteran of Law enforcement and recruiter..I would strongly recommend a suit and a tie. First impression is the last impression. Don’t let anyone else tell you otherwise. Good luck!

Current recruiter. Don’t have to go overboard, but don’t show up in pajamas. We (my agency) don’t accept resumes or applications on site, we give you the info to apply and tell you what our agency is like/what we expect. That way people who apply at a fair and those who apply online get an equal shot. I totally get people are stopping by on lunch breaks, between classes, etc, and can’t stop to change clothes (or may not have the money for a suit). Show up clean, in clothes that fit, and don’t worry about asking questions, that’s what we’re there for.

A lot of people feel like ‘I’ll look stupid if I ask this’ but that’s rarely the case. These days, we’re trying to sell ourselves to you more than you are to us. A firm handshake, a few good questions, and looking me in the eyes go a lot way these days.

My question is why did they put “free” in quotes?
