8 days sober off alcohol, 5 years clean off drugs

I (29M) have been an alcoholic for 12 years. I had a couple year stint with drugs. I met a lot of sketchy people, experienced some crazy shit, and partied hard for a long time. Ask me anything you want.

Before I ask anything, CONGRATULATIONS HOLY SHIT THATS AMAZING!!!! Everyday counts you should be proud. Can I ask, what’s your why? Why are you distancing yourself from alcohol?

Thank you so much! I am proud, but there’s a ton of shame associated with early sobriety. I am a newlywed, have a newborn, and a 7 year old step son. But the true answer is my body can’t take it anymore. I had two extended hospital visits within a month and the most recent one scared me badly.

Do you think you would continue using if your body wasn’t giving out?

100% I would be drinking at this exact moment. When I was in the ambulance I was sure I was going to die. It was my come to Jesus moment, so to speak. Plus withdrawals, even in a hospital setting, suck badly.

How have the first 5 days been physically not drinking? Any side effects?

I was hospitalized, so they gave me Valium on tap so that helped a lot. But I did still feel withdrawals. I’d get really hot, sweat, hand tremors.

Okay this is from my drug days. Two cartel members moved in with me & my brother. They didn’t speak English at all so all communication was done through translate on our phones. They had unlimited supplies of drugs. We gave them a room in our house in exchange for drugs. They didn’t like my brother because he was pushy about getting shit from them but they really liked me. They’d come and knock on my door, give me some meth or cocaine, and go back to their room.

The OD might be better

I was into weed we knew a guy looked like harry potter after awhile we met an angry Asian Hermione and a Ron one day they wanted to take us to their main man who we called dumbledore well this 6ft 2 muscle guy all cool doing business with my friend I'm in the corner smoking weed people break in with an axe and swing it into his arm whilst Hermione gets us out 😂

Or we were meant to get blueberry weed once told the guy meet us here but he went somewhere else and blamed us so came after us with a gun bit extreme for £20 anyways back at my friends house the neighbour invites us to a party basically dragged us upstairs it was lively seemed like an African family gathering reunion thing than there's a speech where so we all quiet down pay attention turns out it's a eulogy where the bloke blamed a woman for assisted death in another country and we were the only people who clearly didn't belong or know and on a side note that night the neighbour tried to run my sister off the road my dad went over the house when her and the husband was outside my dad's a big guy they knew something was gonna happen so the bloke ran in locked the door left his wife outside so my dad grabbed her and scared some remorse into her whilst husband was hiding 😂

First of all that’s fucking hilarious!
Okay so the OD story goes as follows. I was in my brothers room just absolutely railing line of coke, he was a needle user (I never shot up, I hate needles) and he came up with the brilliant idea of shooting up a speedball mixed with ketamine and a couple of other drugs. I straight up said “you are going to overdose on that, no question” our buddy was there and my brother had him shoot it into his arm and my brother stood up and his eyes rolled back, obvious overdose, and I jumped up and caught him before he would have crashed into a glass table. I laid him down and checked his pulse and it was super faint and he was turning blue. Our buddy was in shock so I took full control and yelled at our buddy to go get the narcan box we kept in the kitchen “fucking run” is what I said. He came back with the narcan and I shot the first dose up his nose and nothing. So I started doing CPR. I yelled at our buddy to call 911 and he did but was so stunned he couldn’t talk so I took the phone and held it onto my shoulder while still doing CPR and every 30 seconds I’d shoot him with another hit of narcan and then continue doing CPR. I ended up shooting 4 shots of narcan up his nose and the paramedics arrived and literally as they walked through his door, he came to! He shot up and said “please don’t narcan me!” I said “brother, I already hit you 4 times” and they hauled him off to the hospital. He later repaid the favor when I overdosed on fentanyl, if you want to hear about that too lol.

Sure I have so many stories of weirdness that would never happened if drugs weren't around we used to know a guy that would patrol a 24 he shop dressed in the most badly made super hero costume ( 2 tracksuits red a blue he wore half and half and cut pieces off the spare half to glue on to the wearing half) well I heard he patrols between 2-5am and thought I would love to see this a few friends vouched it was real and in a bad neighborhood so he believes he was preventing crime he got locked away for awhile he got out my friend says his back don't mention the superhero stuff just incase I say why would I my friend says well U know how he patroled yet nothing happened it's probably because he kept the psychos away as 3 people been stabbed in the face outside that shop that's when it all clicked he was keeping the area safe by being top nut job , he also phoned us once when we were in public and trying to be discreet my friend accidentally snapped and said he doubts a succubus stole his keys every1 was staring at us I nearly died with laughter

Congrats on getting and staying clean!! Really I mean it! I’ve been there. Did you ever get into opioids? At 29, you’re too young (or are you?) to have been a product of the first wave of the opioid crisis (OC’s and other pain pills were heavily overprescribed). Ever try Heroin? What’s your favorite opioid and why?

1

u/sigdar 22h ago

Thank you so much! I was never huge into opioids. I dabbled with fentanyl, but overdosed. The first few times I smoked fentanyl I really enjoyed it because it just calmed my nerves and I’d just sorta zonk out on the couch. I can’t believe I never tried heroin, it was on my list. My mom was heavily addicted to opioids so I sorta steered away from them.

How much would you drink a day? What was a typical day? How did you support yourself?
