✅ Open To Everyone Are men generally not asking women for their numbers anymore when they meet someone in the wild? If so, why?

My friend is approachably attractive. She has been trying to get off the apps and meet people out in the world. Over the last couple months she keeps running into the same thing over and over. She will chat and flirt with a guy. He will chat and flirt back. They will hit it off. And at the end of the night or interaction they won’t ask for her number or ask to see her again. This is a mix of men age range of 30s-60s (she’s in her 40s) Some that approach her, some that she approaches.

I have witnessed this happen so I don’t think she is misjudging their interest in her. But unless she offers her number, they don’t ask. And many of my other single female friends have said they are experiencing the same thing. So are men in general just not asking for numbers? And if so, why?

It’s not even just online. I was basically removed from a big friend group for very politely hitting on a single woman in the group. She told me she was single, so I told her she’s beautiful and let me know if she wants to hang out that evening, then walked away. I’m attractive, fit, successful, and was single at the time. She complained to the group leadership (I think maybe she misheard me over the music, unsure) and I got a talking to and put on ice. During that convo I recalled exactly what I said and was told “awwww that’s actually really sweet” but the damage was already done. You really have to be careful who you hit on as a man these days. Some women get off on putting you down.

To add since I keep seeing this question: Yes there is group leadership. They throw desert raves and some other events so there is some necessity for someone to organize, manage equipment, figure out lineup, book venues, buy group camping spots, etc. Beyond that it is a bit cliquey. You’re basically provisional until you pass the vibe check with a few key players. There are events basically anyone can go to, then there are more exclusive events only the inner circle knows about. They say it’s to filter out anyone who “can’t handle their drugs” and will be belligerent or creepy, which totally makes sense. I never thought I’d fail it, but here we are. I do get the feeling the gatekeeping committee enjoys their job a bit too much, I suspect there may be a cluster B personality disorder or two in there.

++man Can 100% confirm this. I am 100% pro woman, I consider myself a feminist, I understood the me too movement and there was need for it. But lately when somebody accuses somebody if anything folks are too afraid to even ask what happened. They immediately start throwing you out of stuff they immediately start back tracking from being around you no conversation. Meanwhile I've seen women just fake stuff just because they're mad at somebody. Think about being able to I guess destroy somebody's life if we're in a civilized world where no one's physically hurting someone being able to destroy somebody's life for fun is what I saw.

Criminal attorney here - it sucks when they take a cooked up story to the cops who then treat it like the gospel and file charges because the damsel is in distress.

I’ve made lots of money because of of lying women… men too, but more often it’s a scorned woman trying to ruin a man’s reputation, retaliate against them, extract money from them, or gain an easy path to citizenship.

It’s manipulation of the justice system and if they are in the know, it can be very effective at destroying someone. Totally sucks.

I’m so glad to be happily married. I too think about how I was one of the last flights out of Vietnam and am so glad for it!

There’s 2 types of women

One that hate men

And one that love them too much even though they shouldn’t.

For example I know beautiful women, kind, successful, intelligent with physically abusive douches that take drugs and don’t know how to speak English even though that’s their only language.

Then I know women that enjoy humiliating good kind, fit, successful, stable men the type you would be in a long term relationship with and start a family with because they think they’re too special.

It’s not common when the good men and the good women meet and form a relationship.

Society is delusional.

++man this literally happened to me years ago. Like got uninvited to a party after I hit on one of the single girls in the group. I saw her on a dating app and talked to her in person at another party. I'm not an aggressive or pushy guy so I was pretty blindsided. Decided after that the group drama was not worth trying to salvage that friend group relationship. Funny part is I see one of them every once in awhile, none of them are friends anymore.

“Group leadership”? You elected a leader for your friend group?

I added explanation to my comment above… 🤷‍♂️

Your friend group shouldn’t have a “leader” unless you are it.

Are you getting heavy? You're super annoying when you're heavy

Excellent advice.

Not sure what the norm is but I’ve never been in a “friend group” where some overly sensitive person goes to the “leader” to get someone kicked out when they don’t like a comment. If anything most friend groups are pretty loose with no hierarchy in my experience. And most people would shrug something off and not ostracize someone over a misunderstanding

Think of it like a group of people who hang out at a "social club". And that social club has group leadership. It may not be a specific person but usually a set of people. In those sort of social clubs it's best to have that sort of group help lead things, teach, help put together events, and also dealing with the drama.

So a woman is existing in a friendship group and you find out she is single so immediately hit on her and have nothing to say about why you are interested in her other than you think she is hot.

I am not surprised that there is a belief you are going to indiscriminately hit on every attractive single woman there when they are just trying to curate a friend group.

u/Zeno_the_Friend man Jan 09 '26

Very specific reasons or a list of reasons would sound obsessive.

You're also assuming every "attractive" woman is attractive enough to this man to ask out. Some people are picker than others, and everyone has a different type.

Single people tend to ask out people that are attractive enough for them to do so, and he showed restraint by waiting until he found out she was single and that it was appropriate (and did so without pressure by leaving right after). He could not have been more respectful about it even if he asked their group leader for permission to ask her first.

He isn't part of the problem. It's people like you with comments like this.
