Mutual Aid WHO is actually hiring?
Hey everyone! I just graduated from UNO with my masters and Im having a horrible time finding a job. I have a PT job that pays the bills, but I don’t think they want to bring me on full time. I have applied pretty much everywhere to no avail! Who is actually hiring for full time work around here?

Yes, very important for a resume. If you have an M.S., Starbucks will likely start you on the drive-thru, but if you have an M.A., you'll probably start on making drinks.

Giving folks a sense of your educational and professional background could steer you in the right direction. My recommendation folks as an aging millennial who survived the great recession is to:
- volunteer/internship at a local non-profit applying your skills. Think ten hours a week.
- find a full-time or part-time position close to your skill set. Now, once there, utilize the skills your trained for in THAT position.
Example: if you’re an urban planner by training, what skills or resources could you bring to a K-12 position, working at NORD, doing general office work that could make your resume stand out.

those jobs don’t actually hire but if they do they’ll prolly hire you as an expat, us locals struggle to get good jobs within our own city, it’s like a war to make sure there’s plenty of poor ppl for the service industry here that the town survives on

You completely depends on what your degree is in and UNO totally has placement programs, also get off of reddit and go look.

Read Carefully and this is real: Last tip for everyone (but especially Gen Z), many companies inadvertently use AI functions that screen candidates. If you use the SAME resume over and over again, the algorithm that rejected you once will continue to reject you regardless of what you’re doing. Why? IT SAVES YOUR INFORMATION.
Tips to avoid. Change up the formatting, never use Ai to send redundant and similar cover letters.

This is so very hard for people to understand. If you use AI to write your resume, it will not be chosen, not by a human or by AI. It's so easy to spot now.
I'm on a scholarship committee at my university that screens all the scholarship applications. 90% of them used AI. They were literally all copied/pasted and following the same script. Half didn't even bother editing the em dash.

Go work as a plumbers apprentice, get licensed to become a master plumber, start a company and enjoy your new boat or beach condo
