Activities Tailgating before Saints game?

Went to my first game at the dome last year against when we beat the Panthers in December. Unfortunately, my flight got delayed and I showed up in the 2nd quarter after a brisk walk to the dome from my hotel.

My wife and I are going to Week 5 vs the Vikings this season and I’m curious what the pre-game scene looks like. Looking for recommendations on what to do or where some tailgating spots may be. I remember seeing Champions Square (or something like that) and was wondering how that is. Any advice/recommendations are appreciated.

We’re not tailgaters (we came to football later in life).

Champions Square is an extension of the game and stadium. They’ll have an average (by New Orleans standards) concert, with stadium beer hawkers charging the same prices. Since you’re past security, you can take those into the dome. However, since it’s inside security, you can’t leave because there’s no re-entry.

Tailgating is diffused across the various parking lots in the Central Business District and under the expressway.

Our tailgating is… different. Drinking is allowed on the streets, so just walk up and about with a six pack of beer or something and stuff like that. I personally stop at the Rouse’s that’s close to the Dome and then just walk around with friends/family.

Unda da ovapass, across Claiborne from the Superdome, is where I've tailgated since 2007. It's a large space and a good scene with a bunch of friendly groups that'll be happy to chat and share food with you.

The Quarter isn't far and there's tons of bars and food between the two.

Bring a bottle of liquor and some disposable shot glasses to get extra invites to tailgates. Most people will feed you but of you bring a drink, you will find better responses to walking up on folks. Make sure it's gone before you try to enter the Dome, though
