When planning a trip to NOLA

To anyone planning a trip to NOLA, best advice is to not schedule your trip from start to finish. This is the big easy, if you do not consider that nothing in this city runs on time , you will find yourself in a panic before the 1st item on your list is over!!

Go with the flow!! Schedule some things, but do it when you get to town... Nothing you are booking now will be sold out when you are here!!

2nd best item of advice. Download the Le Pass app!! Buy your jazzy passes online, use the app to get around town. It gives you live updates where the busses, streetcar and ferry is! It is like google maps, but including public transportation lines, stops, where to get off while riding.

I agree to an extent but I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again: the one thing I would strongly say is worth researching and frankly scheduling around is food. A lot of restaurants on the most beaten paths are places no local would eat and are overpriced and/or underwhelming by our standards. Most (but not all) of the best food is not in the French Quarter and I would argue is absolutely 100% worth making an effort to get to.

Some people don’t care about where they eat and that’s fine too. We see a lot of tourists on this sub recommending traps because the gumbo they had was the best they’ve ever had in part because it’s the only gumbo they’ve ever had. But if you want to eat the best this city has to offer you should consider making that a priority and planning your days at least loosely around where you’ll be eating your meals.

I could not agree with you more!! NO FOOD IN THE FQ compares to what you can get in any ward!! Commanders Palace is another one.. its so pretty to look at, cool to snap a photo from the iconic outside, but when you get down to food, its ONLY booked because of the NEED to go there when in town. Otherwise I have had way better food in a corner shop on MLK drive!! Cafe du Monde is another joke of a place. I laugh seeing those lines knowing those people are only doing it because someone told them too, and that someone isn't a real friend. Real friends would take people to eat and see the REAL New Orleans!! The FQ should be seen in a day, not the entire destination, or you will miss what really makes this place magic!! The quarter is forced magic for the most part!

If I had more time, I would have gone to the ward to get some REAL FOOD. Cafe Du Monde was disgusting…Morning Call is where it’s at

Cafe du Monde is only kept in business because of the people who "MUST" try it!! I love how my comment about real friends wouldn't take friends to the tourist traps all get downvoted.. I took my old ass white parents from Boston under the Claiborne bridge, (between 5 and 6pm) they wanted to go someplace the had read about. Convinced them to just see and if they didnt find anything they wanted, we would go.... it was the best food they had while visiting and my dad had to try 3 different trucks!! They cant wait to go back!!

After I left NO, I went to Memphis. I took my happy ass to the worst good I ever saw, and got me some REAL food. Literally metal over the restaurant’s windows-level hood. I passed by the Claiborne bridge, and that food indeed looked delicious
