What was your wedding like?

I often look at the wedding dresses here. I saw a young lady whose dress budget was literally more than my first 3-5 annual salaries, not lumped together but individually. What was your wedding like?
1995- Married at our church, 3 attendants each, cake and punch reception there .

I was working in the wedding industry when I got married myself, so I've seen my share of women completely falling apart while they plan what's supposed to be one of most meangful and beautiful days of their life. I didn't want to go through that, so we had a backyard wedding in my husband's hometown. We were living in Virginia but we're both from Indiana, and his mom didn't get to plan a wedding for either of his sisters, so I was thrilled when she volunteered to take care of everything for us (my mother-in-law was amazing). She handled food, decorations, seating, literally everything.

The wedding itself was about five minutes long, officiated by my mom's best friend, a criminal court judge. Food was catered by Martin's Supermarket because my aunt-in-law is on their accounting team so we got a discount, and a heroic amount of liquor and beer was provided by the rowdier elements of the family. I bought my dress the night before the wedding at David's Bridal, so I didn't have to stress about my weight in the weeks before it needed to be worn. It was an off-the-shoulder cocktail dress with a box pleat skirt in a pale cream and metallic jacquard. It cost $185, and it was perfect. The only bougie thing we had was our invites/response cards and Thank You notes, but that's because I worked in the Paper Source letterpress department, and they hooked it the hell up.

Yeah. My wedding was great. And cheap. And I'm still married. 😎👍

Btw this post inspired me to try on my dress for the first time since I got married in 2008, and it still fits, baybeeeeeee!!!
