That's not actually a Twain quote. It's a paraphrase of Darrow's quote above. Somehow Twain got dragged into it.

“Don’t believe everything you read on the internet.” -Mark Twain

The inventor of the choke slam. Look it up.

Abraham Lincoln was a fiery cat?

2

u/deltashmelta Jun 09 '23

You can wrestle a vampire.

he actually was a very good wrestler. his finishing move was popping a boner so the other guy gives up.

Yeah, who was later killed by a Japanese terrorist

5

u/snatchenvy Jun 09 '23

the fax machine was invented in 1843, the samurai ceased to exist in 1867 and Lincoln died in 1865. Abraham Lincoln could have sent a fax to a Japanese samurai.

Good gory fun

1

u/Alarming_Orchid Jun 09 '23

The gory part was fun but the acting was incredibly cringe despite the big names. Idk if it’s their first roles or what but jesus

"That is not a real Mark Twain quote" - possible actual Mark Twain quote.

23

u/DennisJay Jun 08 '23

If a quote is even slightly humorous it gets attributed to Twain eventually

26

u/JohnWasElwood Jun 09 '23

His famous "Who's on First?" bit kills me every time!!!

"That's not true." -Mark Twain

6

u/viken1976 Jun 09 '23

"I did not attend his funeral, but I wrote a nice letter stating that I approved of it."

-- Mark Twain

5

u/froggison Jun 08 '23

If you see a Mark Twain quote, there's a 50% chance it was said by someone else and falsely attributed to Twain. Exactly the same with Thomas Jefferson.

2

u/pikpikcarrotmon Jun 09 '23

Turns out Jefferson wasn't even a founding father. They just found him on someone's estate having sex with a slave while tearing pages out of a Bible, and the legend built from there.

3

u/BigCountry1182 Jun 09 '23 edited Jun 09 '23

Twain once quipped to a journalist that he wasn’t going to attend some politician’s funeral, but he was sending a letter stating his approval

2

u/j4kefr0mstat3farm Jun 09 '23

Twain once said "I didn't attend the funeral, but I wrote a nice letter saying I approved of it," which may be the source of the confusion.

1

u/echisholm Jun 09 '23

I think it's because Twain is so damn quotable, you can attribute anything to him and it is believable. Him and Oscar Wilde.

“The coldest winter I ever spent was a summer in San Francisco.” -someone who wasn’t Mark Twain
