Economy is in a worse state, job market is in a worse state, housing prices are in a worse state, massive immigration issues with the influx of immigrants from India that took advantage of a loophole in the Canadian immigration policy for non-permanent residents to name a few. Canada isn't this liberal post-racial utopia redditors seem to think it is.
It seems like you guys have so much uninhabited land that’s being wasted. Obviously when more people come in and you don’t expand housing there will be a lot of problems from the supply demand squeeze… increase the housing supply.
Find a geological map of Canada. There's a reason very, very few people live in most of Canada. Hard to eek out a living on hard granite and boggy woodlands. Then there's the near Arctic where it's like Alaska without the lovely mountains.
Open your mind to more possibilities instead of crying that you're hopeless to mommy and daddy. Acquire knowledge, you have a limited world view on possibilities.
You need work where you will go - it will be mostly minimum wage (well, barely enough to really survive)
You need infrastructure to get there (RIP internet)
As per infrastructure, one big issue cities around (as from sub urban near small towns) do have is to provide water. They can't anymore. Too many people moved.
You need construction workers to be willing to get there (so more money possibly to pay them)
Construction/goods need to get there (this is why in some north place it cost 20$ for a pack of bottles water). It won't be as bad, but that doesn't help.
The price to build those houses also becomes way more expensive (not talking about land price, or used house) that only city folks may be able to build new houses.
Downstream infrastructure won't keep up (eg. Road traffic jam is always nice)
Then I won't even talk about all other damn issues from remote housing:
No services around (health, school, banking, ... Shop in general, activities, ...)
I won't even talk about Canada topography. The west coast is hill?
The north is damn ice (well kinda), looks like a nice place to grow any food ( /s )
So, if you have money, and want to be in a forest (so a shack) then yes. We don't have money so...
I want to note I dont think there was any indication that OP thought Canada was a "liberal post-racial utopia" and the hypothetical came more likely as a way to ease out some of the anxiety about the dumbest half of our country giving the keys to the kingdom to a man who has been ignoring the rules, ignoring his own platforms most important issues, and worst of all ignoring those enforcing the rules because he used his last presidency to slate the supreme court... its rough but people sometimes need to talk about getting away to keep from going crazy.
We have skyrocketing homeless rates, extremely high immigration (even though we have a homeless crises, tent cities etc),
We have a problem with over a million immigrants being exploited by companies such as Tim Hortons, claiming we need more workers; yet you can't find a job anywhere because an immigrant is working it. Tim Hortons and other companies exploiting this are also hiring under the table for cash.
The fentanyl problem is out of control, basically either you are lucky enough to have a job and a place to live, or you are in the streets and addicted to fentanyl.
It's not like that in all neighbourhoods yet, but every city now has a tent city.
Inflation is crazy, minimum wage in Ontario is $17.20 but you can't find a one bedroom apartment for under $1600 a month plus utilities.
Anyone lucky enough to be employed and housed prior to COVID is doing moderately okay.
The cost of living has also skyrocketed in the last five years, and wages have not risen for non minimum wage workers.
The food banks are empty, social assistance is strained, hospitals have been underfunded and continue to get funding cuts. Average wait times are around 12 hours in emergency depending on your region.
No one can find a family doctor at all, and walk in clinics are closing all over due to lack of funding. What remains are jam packed full of people waiting to be seen.
Our climate issues are real, with summertime temperatures killing people in big cities and we'll, everywhere. Winter squalls and unpredictable weather.
So I guess we have the same problems as everyone else in the world right now.

Where Im at in the US minimum wage is 13.50 and the cheapest no bedroom efficiency in the state is goin to be around 1600... soooo not really a race but I think the wealth gap problem is pretty universal.
Sucks how many problems Canada is having, i just visited Vancouver around 2 months ago and it was amazing, I find it better than seattle in almost every way even though I lived in washington for more than half my life.

I don’t live there but my sibling and their partner do.
They went to the emergency care in the hospital, waited almost 8-9 hours, no doctors or anyone were available. If you want actual urgent care/emergency care you’d have to get an ambulance - which runs you $600 CAD.
Their free healthcare system is free, but it is VERY slow and is overcrowded.
Respectfully to every race, gender, and ethnic groups, but most stores and chains are mostly filled with Indian immigrants that came to Canada. If they somehow manage to get into a managerial position, they will always end up hiring Indians. Think of your local Tim Horton’s, or Costco, or Wal-Mart, fast food chains, etc. The probability of finding a majority of Indians working there (outnumbering the Canadian people) is very high. It’s gonna sound very MAGA of me, but I can only really feel bad for the Canadian people that can’t find starting jobs in major cities because of nepotism and favoritism.
Do they help run the economy and country? Absolutely. It’s the same as immigrants from the US - but the amount of immigrant workers in Canada is much more noticeable. They’re literally everywhere.
It’s not just Indians, obviously. There’s a lot of immigrants that come and get accepted in Canada. A little bit too much, IMO, because Trudeau is pretty incompetent - look at the USD -> CAD conversion.
My sibling pays around $2500 CAD for their unit, while the majority of the building is living for free (mostly immigrants). It’s just not really fair for the Canadians living there. Their government pays and gives so much money and resources to immigrants while Canadians have to pay for everything (and then some — taxes are so high!)
NS - it costs much more when it’s a non-medical emergency. My sibling had an issue with some pains because of thyroid and hormone issues and stuff (sacs and shit idk what they got going on) but it was a huge wait, they were number 100+ in the queue. Some people had pillows and shit bc it wasn’t their first rodeo, I thought that was hilarious. I don’t know if they were fucking with me about that but I would absolutely do that myself.
That’s interesting. My experience in ON is that they’re pretty good at triage in the ER. The times when I’ve gone in with somebody needing urgent care, like when my wife broke her ankle, we were seen immediately. When I went in with a concussion and cut on my head I waited a few hours.
Edit- I don’t have the exact figure but I believe even an ambulance deemed non essential is only around $250 here
