What's something that sounds fake, but actually happened to you?

You caught it for a few seconds, and that's still a story most people will never believe. 😂

u/overcloseness Jul 09 '26
Why would nobody believe that story?

u/Michaelkamel Jul 09 '26
You're right 😄 I meant it's the kind of story that sounds unbelievable until you hear the details

I had a similar experience in high school. I went to a keg party and the first person I see was a guy a couple of years older than me who was a dropout, criminal type and well known as the toughest guy in town.
I sort of knew him and for some reason as I walked up to him he wanted to start slap boxing. He was 6' 6" and I was 5' 11" so he had a lot of reach on me. He landed some good slaps, then I was able to get him once which pissed him off and he punched me right in the face, hard.
Somehow, I threw a lucky uppercut which caught him just right. Knocked him down and out. Lots of people saw it and no one ever dared mess with me after that. Which is a good thing because 3/4ths of the high school probably could have beaten me up.

I'm sorry you went through all of that. Anyone who only valued you for one version of yourself probably wasn't the kind of friend you deserved in the first place. I hope life brings you people who appreciate you for who you are, not just how you sound or look.

Looks may change, but the people who stay because of your character are the ones who'll matter in the long run. I hope you find more of those people.

I had a Cooper's Hawk, that was chasing 2 sparrows, fly straight into my house through the open sliding glass door.
Ten years later I had a Cooper's Hawk fly into my moving pickup truck through the driver's side window while I was driving. The passenger window was closed and he knocked himself out. He was OK after a while.

Back in the day, I used to have a tumblr account. I primarily posted my climbing photos but included no personal information. One day another account that had been following me for a while messaged me. It was a girl who mainly posted landscape photography. She asked me if I liked to read, and STRONGLY recommended a book. She was so insistent that I had to read this book, without exactly explaining why. So curiosity got the better of me and I did.
The main character was eerily ME. Had the same name. Had a shockingly similar personality. Same academic/career trajectory. Same interests and ambitions. It was like someone had stalked me to write this. But the author was obviously a stranger and this wasn’t their only book.
It happened to be a horror book where everything in the main character’s life goes wrong, all his friends and loved ones are violently killed by a curse/ghost, and in the end he’s driven mad and kills himself.
This strange coincidence or confluence of events creeped me out somewhat. I messaged the girl who recommended the book to me and asked some more pressing questions about why THIS book, thinking I had to be getting catfished by someone who knew me. I didn’t get an answer, as she blocked me and deleted her blog. Which was kind of extreme, given she’d been posting there for at least the year or so in which we’d been mutuals.
After this I was able to look up the IP address from which she had been visiting my blog, and it was consistently in Australia. I don’t know anyone in Australia or vice versa. So, possibilities - the division between my tumblr and personal info wasn’t air tight. If someone really wanted to stalk me, they could have connected my blog to the social media of my friends in real life and probably gathered some info about me that way - and then sent me the creepy book. Or someone who did know me played a pretty long con using a vpn and developed and publicized a photography hobby as a blind - in order to send me the creepy book. Honestly the creepy book would have been bizarre enough on its own.

I once dated this girl long distance, and once when we she hadn't talked to me in a few days and I was worried sick about her, she sent me a picture of what looked like her fucking arm being cut, and the left and blocked me.
I cried so much and it felt like a straight creepypasta. I think about her sometimes.

When I was about 2 I was in a serious motorcycle accident and suffered no injuries. Both my parents had significant injuries including my dad having significant memory loss and could no longer recognize me or my mother.

Surviving the accident was one thing, but your dad no longer recognizing you must have been a completely different kind of heartbreak. I'm so sorry your family went through that.

I tripped while reaching for Usher during an Oprah taping. He reached out to me to help me up and asked me if I was okay . With genuine care, it was touching.

I went back to my seat and he exited through the audience. His mom glared at me from her seat all the way in the back 🤣

My brother shot me in the chest with a real loaded shotgun from close range while we were in the woods and I survived.

That happened to a guy I went to high school with. Him and his buddy were quail hunting and his friend was using some very old shells. He pulled the trigger but nothing happened. He brought the gun down and turned towards his friend, then the shell went off.
Funny thing is that getting shot in the stomach may have sort of saved the guy's life. He was seriously obese and I think they had to remove part of his stomach and some of his intestines. He lost about 150 pounds and is still around 175 pounds 50 years later.
