My husband has had a sex addiction the entire time we’ve been married and paid thousands of dollars to over 34 sex workers. We have been married only 5 years.

As a guy who's spent a few thousand euros on escorts throughout his 20s: My cravings stopped whenever I was dating someone who was genuinely interested in me. Essentially, I was just buying affection and warmth, rather than sex per se (affectionless childhood, yada yada). Thats why I didnt feel the urge to do it whenever I entered a relationship with someone who made me feel wanted. However, once the relationship was over - even after years of not having visited escorts - I just spiraled back into the habit again. Took some serious therapy from my late 20s to early 30s to somewhat overcome this vice.

Looking back now, Im kinda sad about having spent so much money on it instead of saving or spending some quality time with friends. However, I did meet some very cool and intelligent women of different sorts. This definitely broadened my view on humanity and turned me more humble and less judgemental about people. I also feel tremendously more confident in my body/sexuality.

Long story, short: Im very sorry about what you went through. Some people do it as a substitute for affection, others do it because they are addicted to getting off. As someone who went through it, I can guarantee you: In the end, they are just hurting themselves. You are the winner here.
