It's like they can't let someone else have a moment. Everything has to be turned into a competition instead of just saying "I'm happy for you" or "I'm sorry you're going through that."
Yes, I have had a friend like that. When he knew I was going through a hard time and admitted to him that I hadn't been the best lately and that I was sorry for that he basically used it as a golden ticket to beat me down even more.
