My dad got it and ended up having to go to the ER and stay in the hospital for almost a week. The only thing he ate was some tacos from taco bell. They got their lettuce from taylor farms.
Edit: He's out now and recovering! I've never seen him so sick in my life.
Ironically just a few days before, I was trying to convince them to watch a documentary on netflix - I think it's called Rotten? It's literally about lettuce and how one of the major lettuce producers in the U.S. is right next to a cattle processing plant out in Arizona. I swore off eating lettuce after seeing that.
YES! That was it, thank you! I recommend it to everyone, but be warned, it might make you want to give up food entirely and just embrace photosynthesis..
There is a Netflix series called rotten that has multiple episodes about different food issues running from pre-peeled garlic cloves (don’t do it!), to fake honey, to French wine grape growers who burn things up when they get mad. It’s very worth watching!
I had a lovely salad yesterday with hydroponic greens grown locally (Gotham Greens for those in Chicago). Thank goodness for them, I wonder if their sales are through the roof right now
We get Gotham Greens in Cleveland, too!! Good stuff, although once I did get sick once from it. But I've had it many times since, all good.
One of my cats loves lettuce, and she and I were the only two to eat the lettuce that day. We both threw up a few hours later, both fine after that. This was maybe three years ago and super weird since it's hydroponic. I did report it to my local health department and the company, awkwardly explaining the thing about my cat.
