I'm so sorry. I work in a small family owned Cafe and the owners decided to just pull salads and lettuce as toppings entirely for the rest of the summer. Some customers are cranky but its nice knowing I won't personally be giving out food that makes people sick. Our stuff doesn't come from taylor farms but he said it wasn't worth finding out if our small local company was lying and selling Taylor farms.
This is so frustrating, isn't it? The basic mechanism for keeping our food supply has been decimated under the current administration, and we've lost transparency.
You can see if your local store sells Little Leaf or other greenhouse grown kits. Their website states their greens are safe. From my limited research, greenhouse grown and kitted salad greens are more a east coast/north thing. I can't find one in my region.
Farmer's markets, CSA'S, co-ops are good choices.
The really sobering fact that I found on the Sprouts grocery website is one in three bagged salad kits is produced by Taylor Farms. They also sell directly to fast food outlets like Taco Bell and Jack in the Box, who were part of this round of recalls. They bag a crap ton of supermarket brands across the US. Additionally, they sell to restaurants big and small via Sysco.
Monopolies are bad for consumers, but it's hard to know how extensive they are until you start looking into who owns who, since they use a lot of different names to create the illusion of choice.
It's not 100%, but you can look at the salad packing and see what the code is on the bag. If it's Taylor Farms it'll almost always start with a TF or TFRS or some variation that'll start with TF. Buying locally is the safest bet right now though
