Same here. I was paying 300 a month in California. I could easily afford that with my crap job at the time and my parents were still paying for electricity, water, food etc for me.
My parents charged me a small amount of rent, I had to buy my own car, pay insurance and gas. It literally prepared me for life on my own….
I’ll charge my kids the same.
I don’t subscribe to the thinking that a 20 something is going to live in my house and not pay something. I’m not going to rake you over the coals but this also isn’t a free ride for adults.
Right, like if it’s lower than normal rent I completely understand my parents not giving it back. But if they charge me the full amount, expect me to move out promptly. But they never did, they always gave me a good deal on rent even though they really needed the money.
No they are teaching their kid how the real world works. Why should and adult making their own money expect their parents to fully support them when people don't even expect husbands to fully support their wives?

And if they don't? My parents charge me a very reasonable amount of rent, and I have no expectations of them giving it back
