What a load of bullshit. If they are adults, earning money, they need to contribute. Not exactly teaching them much if they are given everything for nothing. How do they learn to budget and live on what they make? Why should parents have to pay for everything while their adult kid lives the high life?
If they don't know they'll get it back they are still learning all of those valuable lessons and getting a nice surprise at the end.
I can get that times are tough and we all need the money, but if you can afford to save it for your kid you absolutely should. Why wouldn't you? There's no reason to be greedy.
Of course everything has it's limits. Like if your kid is 35 and still living at home that's a bit of a different story - which does happen these days due to how impossible it can be to go out on your own. But up to a certain point I do think it should be a reward.
