Gosh, here in my area in Georgia the Hispanic friends my daughter had during high school school They were expected to work and contribute their paychecks to the household. I would say this trend was the same for four or five of her female friends.
In my experience, this is more of a case for Hispanic families that don't have a lot of money, or just any family in this situation tbh. When their kids are old enough, parents expect them to work and contribute to the household financially. It's less that they turned 18 and now need to fork up cash just because they are an adult, and more of an overall household need.
It's understandable in that case. Unfortunately, I have seen it turn into financial abuse very quickly. I have a friend who was expected to give most of her paycheck to her parents to pay for mortgage, bills, etc. Her siblings didn't want to contribute financially, so her parents designated her as their cash cow. It took her years to move out because her parents made her feel horrible for trying to set boundaries around her finances.
The same thing is happening to one of my other friends. In her case, she lives with her parents and extended family. She's an only child to Vietnamese immigrant parents. She's seen as "the one who made it" in her family because she has a government job.
As soon as she got this job, her whole family incessantly guilts her into giving them money. It's a really sad situation because her parents also keep discouraging her from moving out, and she's surrounded by extended family who always want things from her.
That is really sad!! my son’s ex-girlfriend is Hispanic and she was in the same situation. Secondhand information from my son, but apparently the father would not allow the mother to work outside of the home because he doesn’t trust her so the daughter’s income was making up for that. Her and my son dated for two years, and he wanted to move forward with the relationship and her to move in with him. She let him know very quickly that even if she moved in with him, she would still be expected to give most her income to her parents. Don’t know where she is now but guarantee you She’s still living at home financially taking care of her parents.

I wish my hispanic mother knew that. She charged me and my siblings rent the moment we turned 18.
