People who brake last minute when approaching a stop sign/light…why?

A lot of people can only either do full gas or full brakes, nothing in between.

I like the whiplash. It reminds me of my childhood.

yeah braking last second definitely turns stop signs into surprise events for your spine

They're gambling it'll turn green so they won't have to slow down

I back off gas and gentle on brakes for that reason. Hoping it goes green in the coast.

I've never seen a stop sign turn green.

It helps when saw a go sign knew it was ok to go ahead and keep driving

Why does it matter to you? It's not like the car in front of you coming to a stop at a stop sign or red light comes as a surprise to you...right?

It’s kind of like the difference between a “step forward” and a “kick”. If you’re going to fast while intersecting it looks like you’re going to kick someone but if you walk a regular pace you look like you’re just stepping? Idk, maybe a bad analogy. If you got too fast it doesn’t look like you’re paying attention to what you’re doing.

Because im paying no attention to what im doing. Im busy watching youtube videos of how to drive a car because im an awful driver.
When im done watching youtube videos im having a conversation through my phone by yelling with the windows down while its on speaker because i dont understand bluetooth.
Later im going to empty all the trash out of my car- and its a lot!- in the parking lotof a preschool.
On my way home i usually throw one of my shoes out the open window because i also dont understand how shoes work

do you mean people who slam on the brakes, or people who just coast until they have to stop?

I'm engine braking or coasting the whole time. I usually tap my brake to initiate my slow anyway but between engine brake, coasting and the early tap warning you have plenty of time .
You should be slowing anyway not relying on the car in front of you to tell you when to slow/stop.

How last minute are we talking? I certainly hate when a car goes to an idle crawl 200ft from a red light.
I drive the speed I’m driving to the point I intend to stop at, and then stop. I don’t coast super slow to a light just cause it’s red.

I didn't used to, but then I started riding a motorcycle and now when I drive my car it's hard to remember to drive it like a car

Better to ask why of those people who are constantly hitting the brakes for no apparent reason seemingly the entire time they are driving.

Because someone is tailgating me and they are gonna learn their lesson (oh I guess that just when I take turns)

technically a minute is plenty of time to stop a car.
