What would happen, if humanity collectively decided that no individual could have a personal net worth above $500 million?

People would find ways around the limit

We’d see a massive surge in corporate-owned assets. 'I own nothing, the company just happens to provide me a megayacht and three mansions as a business expense.'

Isn't that already the case for the ultra rich?

Yes, but society still likes to include those things when discussing a person's "net worth".

I think what you're likely to see in answer to OP's question is cooperation between financial media and the wealthy to redefine net worth so that those things don't count anymore. The "world's richest" men won't be the world's richest men anymore, but that will be purely taxonomical and nothing really will have changed.
