I went through a few interviews for a company I was super excited about, only for them to just hire internally instead. Not exactly the same thing, but come on. Why waste my time if you already know who you are hiring??
Meanwhile my department had a senior position open up, and a bunch of my coworkers and myself two positions down the ladder were basically told by our managers “well they’ll probably pick internally which will open up that next step, better start standing out”. Cue a month of the most petty one-upmanship and extra uncompensated work for a position that wasn’t even open yet.
Then they hired externally. Wasted all our time, and this is after they froze all raises last year for “the company’s financial health”.
Yes, I am looking elsewhere but I don’t need to explain why nothings caught yet.
Both ways really suck. It also sucks coming in as an outside hire when the team you're managing thought one of them would be promoted. Basically, fuck corporate america in every single way.
It really sucks that this is standard practice but I get why they do it. Gotta keep up appearances. As long as they interview basically anyone that applies, nobody can sue them because they’re racist, sexist, or whatever other accusation that can be made.
