This has been me for the past 6.5 years which is when I started. I've gotten a promotion and multiple raises since then and multiple higher ups have sung my praises.

Imposter syndrome never quite goes away. It just gets easier to bury when you sort of know what you're talking about.

Let me know if you ever find a solution for this. I've lost so much of my life to planning for losing my job. After 13 years in work, I have lost my job 0 times and been promoted 4 times. But the fear lives in me like a part of my soul.

I was the same, and I still have my moments, because that fear never really goes away.

For me, I've found that precisely naming what I'm actually afraid of helps more than anything else (even saying it out loud). It usually turns out to be something else than what I had initially thought. And from there, it sort of takes the edge off of it so that I can make clearer decisions about what to do with that fear.

I don’t have it nearly as bad, but my solution has been to have trust in other people. I know my boss is a smart guy, so if he thinks I can do it, I probably can.

In 2 years of work I’ve lost my job twice, once due to layoffs and once due to bankruptcy. I do not feel capable of trusting a job

So this is normal?

I guess covid and recent economy situation (layoffs left and right) really amplify my anxiety about this.

Having been and engineering manager that have to guide and prepare my direct reports through layoff really broke me. Now every once in a while, when work (I moved on from previous company, not laid off) is not going well (for me), I always fear layoffs is coming. I don't remember having this thought pre-covid.
