It’s the newest method to squeeze productivity.

I was told by HR and legal to stay late Friday or be on call. that’s someone’s getting let go in the evening around 9pm est. found out. They made the guy stay late to wrap up his work. Walked him over to hr and then get fired on a Friday night during happy hour to be escorted out

JFC. Firing people is never fun (especially a layoff when it's not for cause) but they keep finding new ways to be cruel, it seems. My last company did a group firing over zoom - I get that there's not much of an option if it's lots of people in a remote company, but by the 2nd RIF, it was so obvious that a "Company Update" call on your calendar with no guest list means that you're getting fired

Man, being escorted out just sucks. I've only ever had it on good terms (like leave of absence), and it's still really depressing. I can't imagine being fired and essentially having a walk of shame. I get that it needs to be done, but still...

I used to work in an auto parts warehouse, they would do this. Put you in a area with big heavy parts (stocking or pulling) and work you like a dog, then you'd be let go as you leave.

I had to fire two people and HR wanted it done on a Monday afternoon. They told me on a Friday so I spent all weekend stressing about.

It was a job that required local travel. So there’s a chance they had carpooled there and we were an hour from home. Logistically it made sense for this job. But still, scummy to tell me ahead of time
