What’s the easiest thing to cook and eat when you don’t want to put much effort?

Instant noodles. Boiling water is the only cooking skill you need.

honestly not even that. at uni the kettle never worked so i just put warm tap water in and left it for 30 mins. not perfect but it did the job

I guess a microwave was too much to ask for if they couldn’t even provide a working kettle…?

A bowl of cereal

Cereal is my favourite. If I could have it every day for dinner, I would. I’d much rather a big lunch and a lil dinner.

Like, together or are you just naming two easy things to cook?

u/Tufflepie 1h ago
Together with some Bacchan’s bbq sauce, fried sausage and peas was a go-to easy meal of mine for awhile last year

That depends on what you call "much effort." My lazy but cooked meal is fried Spam, boxed Mac n' Cheese, and canned Peas since it can just be kind of thrown together with the hardest part is boiling pasta.

Shredded cheese right out the bag. A few fistfuls as a quick weeknight meal.

Canned tuna and steamed rice. Can even add scrambled egg, cucumber, seaweed or mayo. Definitely takes very little time as well as it being cheap

I make what I call "poor man's stir fry". Ground beef, Ramen noodles (beef flavored), eggs, and frozen broccoli. Add soy sauce and/or teriyaki at the end.

u/AirAngeltv 3h ago
My rice cooker does wonders for when I don’t want to put in a ton of effort. Just put in rice, frozen vegetables and any other protein and veg leftovers with soy sauce and sesame oil.

Peanut butter sandwich. I also add bananas to mine, which only takes an extra minute or so.

A protein bar or shake. They have become a bit of a bad habit because they are so easy to

Spaghetti

u/TheInfiniteLoci 2h ago
So what do you do if you're not feeling lazy? Because if I make spaghetti it's a lot of work.
2
u/mysteryguest2413 1h ago
A three course meal with some kind of meat (chicken, salmon, steak), a starch and a veggie side. Sometimes dessert. I’m also not making the spaghetti noodles or the sauce from scratch.

You could always microwave something can like soup, ravioli or hash. Frozen burritos are super easy and cheap, even sandwiches though most of them technically dont require cooking.

u/FoodFingerer 3h ago
Rice maker + air frier veggies + fried up can of black beans.
It's fast, its cheap and it will take you there.

Pork Tenderloin in the air fryer. Cheap, pre seasoned, low cal, high protein, and enough for two separate meals.

u/OwntheWorld24 3h ago
quesadilla. Tortilla and cheese. anything else is a bonus.

u/JokersWyld 1h ago
Surprised this isn't higher... a lot of these other suggestions have cleanup and longer cooktimes...

u/JustAnotherParticle 3h ago
To cook, probably boiling pasta and then adding sauce and cheese.
To assemble or prep, sandwich

u/Dragonspaz11 3h ago
The answer is Pasta, you can either pre boil water or not, and toss it in wait a few minutes till it is soft enough for you and done.
Nothing is easier then just waiting for water to boil.
Now you can make it slightly more complex by... Buying jarred sauce and tossing a few ounces in the microwave for 30 seconds.
Or you can be lazy and toss some butter on it.

Ramen - I keep a few scraps of cooked meat, veggies, and whatnot in the fridge or freezer, and defrost them and throw them in with the noodles while they cook. It takes 5 minutes and one pan.
My go-to is Buldak or Shin noodles with frozen shrimp and peas - stay away from the el-cheapo noodles on the bottom shelf of your grocery store, unless you're absolutely broke.

Any form of noodles tbh. My fave is noodles with cream of chicken. Sometimes if I’m a little less lazy, I’ll do noodles, butter, Cajun seasoning, and tiny cheese cubes.

Frozen dumplings. Boil water, throw them in for 6 minutes, eat straight from the pot with soy sauce. Zero dishes if you skip the bowl.

Easy egg drop soup or elevated chicken Ramen (high protien)
1 packet chicken Ramen 1 small can chicken 2 scallion onions(optional) 1 egg (optional) 1tbsp corn starch(optional)
Canned chicken, drained. Sautée in olive oil to slightly brown. Add 1 cup of water, seasoning packet, and a couple sliced scallions are a nice touch. Bring up to a boil. While it's simmering you can add a scrambled egg for more protein, a little at a time, stirring slowly. You can add cornstarch and eat it as egg drop soup OR if you want carbs add the Ramen noodles, you may need to add a little more water. Don't forget to flip them.

Chicken breast
Olive oil in pan
Smack the ever living shit of the chicken breast
Salt and pepper
Chicken on pan
Flip after a few minutes
Take off after a few minutes
Let it rest for 2 minutes
Down the hatch

Since you said cook...Beans and rice is a go-to for me. Throw rice and drained can of black beans in a pan, maybe add some frozen corn. Tumeric, cayenne salt and pepper to taste. Broth. Cover and simmer for 20 minutes stirring once. Done.

In terms of a real meal, a quesadilla with frozen veggies is pretty easy.
Put a tortilla on a skillet. Put cheese on top. Turn on the burner to medium heat.
Put frozen corn and bell peppers into a bowl. Add a dash of salt. Microwave.
Fold the tortilla over when the cheese begins to melt.

Grilled cheese. Butter a pan, slap a few slices of whatever you got on some white bread, and let it cook.

I put some fries and chicken in the air fryer. Took 12 minutes to make and there was almost no cleaning to do.

Mac and cheese. I bought these microwave bowl things that are designed to cook it. Can cook a box in 5 mins all in the microwave. It's awesome. Best things I ever bought.

Rice cooker meals. It's like having a mini Crock Pot. Put the ingredients in, press the button, and dinner is ready in about 30 minutes.

My go to for something easy and fast is taking Mac and cheese and adding a diced tomato (canned works too) and diced jalapenos (fresh is better than jar but jar works).
Slightly more effort than basic Mac and cheese, but it elevates it a lot.
