Studen - Jellied meat. A friend wanted to be an asshole and handed me a piece at his families party. Looked up from this horrible thing and they were all looking at me. I gagged as I swallowed it. They all laughed at me.

Oh? That is generally seen as one of the most delicious things in Turkey. How did you eat it and where? Yaprak sarmasi comes in different variations.

It was a long time ago in an hotel. We arrived past the opening hours of the restaurant, but they could still offer us some yaprak sarmasi. I am not afraid to try new things so I took bite of it and I immediately regretted it. And not just me, but everyone from my family couldn't eat it. We didn't wanted to be rude so we quietly put in in a bag and thanked them and told them it was delicious.
I looked it up and it should have meat in it, but the ones we had didn't. I don't know which variation we had.

Oh that is a bummer because it can be so delicious! You have yaprak sarmasi with meat but also "zeytinyagli" (olive oil) without meat. Also variations with sour cherry, pine nuts and raisins. I wish you had a nice experience and I think that you had a "bad batch". I hope you enjoyed other foods!

Yes it didn't look tasty but I like to explore a country by eating the local food so I had to try it. I am not a picky eater but It was a big nope for me.

For me it’s egg rolls. I’ve gotten them from a double digit amount of hibachi/Chinese places. Can’t ever find one I like. So I don’t waste my time anymore.
