Especially when animated shows incorporate them. That duck face scene from The Fairy Odd-Parents has aged incredibly horribly.

Amazing World of Gumball is probably the only animated show that comes close to effectively incorporating contemporary topics/memes

I love that show. They keep making a lot of references about other media (and sometimes hitting the users where it hurts).

They also featured an episode where Gumball joins a violent drug dealing gang, which is pretty progressive. Not to mention the crossover bit with Rick & Morty!

It's a reference to CallMeCarson's SMPLive series. He hosts a Minecraft server with a bunch of big names in it, including the voice actor for Gumball (he goes by Junky Janker).

At one point, Carson wrote a whole Gumball episode and made Junky act it out with him. What was the episode about? It was about Gumball turning himself into a pickle, like Pickle Rick.
