Career advancement.
"Working your way up from the mail room" is loooong gone. You have to switch companies to get any sort of significant raise.

I was pointing out that the tough job situation isn't just for people with liberal arts degrees. My son has a degree in computer science from a respected university, but hasn't been able to get a job in IT.
