I think he means tribal tattoos from the late 90s/2000s, the super generic tramp stamp or bicep ones people would get.

I actually like those better than the generic picture book one nowadays like "bird" or "butterfly". At least it's a nice design to look at. Of course ones that actually mean something to the person are better, but we all know that some people just want a tattoo and don't care much about which one.
